Hello soundtrackers, Today I want to talk to you about another soundtrack album that was released on August 18, 2023: “The Haunting of the Queen Mary”. Like the genre of the movie, this album offers a musical experience full of suspense.

The album contains 30 powerful songs. It can make you listen to it for 80 minutes in total, and it can surprise you with interesting movements from time to time.

The opening of the album is quite impressive. It first starts with a deep and dark song by the collaboration of Tiffany Ashton and Tommee Profitt, followed by a dark overture and the tension gradually begins to be felt. This beginning makes you feel the mysterious excitement before starting a horror movie.

In the album, which creates a horror movie atmosphere by using the effective elements of the orchestra, my favorite part is the modern electronic drums and hits that are added without exaggeration outside the orchestra. This mix offers the listener the chance to combine the old atmosphere with a modern sound.

Aiming to capture the atmosphere of tension and fear, the album successfully achieves this goal, especially with tracks such as “Bittner Bleeds & The Infirmary” (my personal favourite). But I must say that the album is not limited to tension and contains different emotional layers effectively.

Throughout the album, the tension and dark atmosphere continues until the end. I can say that it is an ideal choice for those who want to experience a real horror movie scores.

The atmospheric elements used in the album are really impressive. In addition, although the parts that make the atmosphere of an abandoned amusement park or children’s park feel at the beginning of the album diversify the music even more, I have not had the opportunity to watch the movie yet, so it is not possible for me to evaluate whether it has a connection with the movie.

Sudden hits are a must in horror movies. Fortunately, although such moments were included in the album, it was not exaggerated. They enrich the musical experience rather than increase the tension of the listeners.

Although the majority of the songs in the album are made by Jason & Nolan Livesay, names such as Tiffany Ashton, Tommee Profitt, Ryan O’Connell, Wesley Alfvin, Georgina Williams are also included in the album. This diversity adds to the richness of the album and the texture of the music.

Towards the end of the album, after the “Epilouge” of the Livesay brothers, there are compositions of the artists I mentioned, close to swing and big band styles of the 20s or 30s. Also, the Livesays show their musical talents differently with two songs in this section. This extra layer makes the album even more colorful. I’ll watch the movie just when I get a chance to see how this layer is used.

All in all, the “The Haunting of the Queen Mary” soundtrack is an above average album for horror movie music lovers. But don’t expect a soundtrack like “Psycho” or “The Omen”. Atmospheric elements, strong compositions and a wide spectrum offer the listeners a musical experience full of fear and tension, and when listening in the dark, they often make you want to take off your headphones and return to real life.

Personally, I rate this album 7 out of 10. Have you listened to the album or watched the movie? I’d love to hear your opinions and favorites, if any.
