Was private pile retarded? For some reason I keep thinking he was supposed to be "slow" in character for some reason… like why was the other guy teaching him how to lace his shoes? At the least he didn't come across as "normal" to me….
As far as I'm concerned, I think the movie might have ended better with Pyle's death. It's like there's two movies here that didn't quite come together as one.
I'm going to say what no one else has or will. The scene in the Head when Pile shoots the Gunny is a hard reality of what happens when a person is pushed to the point of No return.
3:17 my 1SG when he heard one of the Cadets on the bus say something cocky about how he hit a curb when we pulled into EMU to see a football game, one of the cadets on the bus that did it almost got us all in trouble when he didn’t say a word until one of the other cadets narced on him and 1SG smoked the cadet and the cadet almost got in big trouble and could’ve been punished to do push-ups or cause us all to have to do push-ups if 1SG didn’t find out who said the word in which I wouldn’t have minded doing the push-ups if we had to because push-ups is actually a really good exercise that should be done daily. btw I’m in JROTC not ROTC or the actual military.
Best movie that shows what Marine basic training was like or could’ve been like during the Vietnam war. Other movies like Jarhead were also really good examples of what life as a Marine could be like.
R Lee Emery was originally the authenticator for the movie, but Kubrick decided to make him the Sergeant and let him write his own lines. This was the role that made him famous.
Private pile is really trying so hard not to laugh and he does a great job of trying to hold it back but some of the things that Ermey said is so funny he could not keep a straight face…this is not scripted!!!

"Oh that's right Private Pile!! Don't make any ….ing Effort!!!"
My all time favorite movie
WHOEVER MADE THIS FREE DESERVES THE MEDAL OF HONOR!! “YOU GOT GUYS PRIVATE AND GUTS IS ENOUGH!!”
Anyone out there, from platoon 344 Parris island, 1971, this movie was pretty close to what it was like at, Parris island
"You climb obstacles like old people fuck" is the funniest roast I have ever heard! 😂
One of those typical "false masterpieces" like Apocalypse Now, etc. Just another senseless hippie anti war propaganda film…

"You climb obstacles like old people fuck" is my favorite Ermey line.
This movie is one of the all time top 10 war movies. Maybe Platoon too. Gonna have to watch Gunny yell in "The Watch" also.
FUCK HBO

Tom Hanks is so good in this.

Would be a badge of honor to claim a kick or slap from Sgt Hartman.

51:45 Mickey Mouse – (Gunny) "What kind of Mickey Mouse…." (ending march) M-I-C…K-E-Y….M-O-U-S-E. Kubricks message throughout this whole movie.
Holy Jesus YouTube! This is one of my favorite movies! I am flipping out right now! 😆 Thank you Youtube!
Did not know they could stack shit that high, you trying to sneak in a inch on me?
This and one flew over the cuckoo's nest free? Must be new management
Kubrick ovelry manipulates the audience, especially during the last scene with female sniper..
Somebody said in a video retrospective of FMJ that Pyle died figuratively and was reborn as Animal mother

I've watched this about a thousand times and still see new things and nuances.
Semper Fidelis
Semper Paratus
