I saw this version in eighth grade English class on videotape. The class has just read the novel. I remember writing a theme on False Pride for the course.
This is the version I've been waiting to see again. Thank you for uploading it. I am fond of Michael York's performances, having first seen him in Romeo and Juliet with Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey.
At about 1 hour and 20 minutes in, when they are all at the ball and one of the male suiters says, "I thought you'd save the next dance for me". One second passes and then, ………………….somebody FARTS. You should use some good earbuds or head set but you'll hear it. NO ONE breaks character nor does anyone make a face but………..there it is! THEN, she fans her face with her dance card! Sarah Miles is a real TROOPER! I've watched this scene about 40 times and laughed my butt off! Miss Miles is still alive and I'd like to find her and ask her about this scene. The "mystery fart" being delivered by which one of the male actors. WAIT! It could have been HER! Or a lighting guy Or the director Or a gaffer Or a sound boom operator…………….or……………………..
I thought it was a good adaptation but the problem of making a movie from a novel is too much condensation. The friendship with Wemmick and the Aged, The rowing preparations and the timeline changes are hard to bear. For instance the marriage of Joe and Biddy and the surprise of it all.

Another beautiful Dickens 🎁
The 1946 version is much, much better, from A to Z,,
cant watch there hair is from the 70's and the costumes
Charles Dickens was a genius! This was a great movie. The lesson I learned was to do good and good will follow you.
Michael York was wonderful in this production he is so handsome ❤
Does anyone know what physical complication Michael York had? I know he was quite ill before he died.
Not sure if it was in the book but having a city gentleman beat a blacksmiths apprentice at arm wrestling is very unlikely.
