Personally, I’m a big fan, and I like it more with each listen.
I’ve seen lots of reviews in the past month claiming it’s too similar to the original, lacks the spark of James Horner’s original work, or that it doesn’t have any new memorable themes, but that could not be further from the truth, in my opinion.
Franglen did an excellent job honouring Horner’s original sound and really did bring lots of new ideas to the table, especially when it came to all the music relating to the new Metkayina clan. Some of my favourite new themes are:
“Payakan” (possibly my favourite of all the tracks- exceedingly beautiful)
“The Tulkun Return”
“The Spirit Tree”
“Leaving Home” (contains a beautiful iteration of the Songcord melody)
and of course, “Into the Water” and “The Way of Water” (the ones that seem to most commonly catch people’s attention)
Curious to hear your thoughts and whether you disagree; if you’re in the camp who wrote this score off, I hope you’ll consider giving it another listen!
