There is something wrong with people who abandon their own to live the life of others. I watched for the historical and cultural element, but it was boring. Very boring! I am uninterested in struggles of the heart. Kidman gave an amazing performance.

When I was a kid, I loved sleeping in a bed and eating from a plate with silver ware.

This was a beautiful film. Appreciate what Ms. Belle did & sacrifice she made ๐Ÿ‘ต๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŒพโฃ๏ธ

How ignorant I am about this area of the world. How amazing was Gertrude! Bell! This was a marvelous video. I want to find and read the script, if possible. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

its too bad that the people in the west never understood the folk of the middle east like Gertrude Bell did, to be honored by them is a rare deed in this era, where it seems we are killing each other over differences or wrongs done to the other in the past

she and Cadogan's romance only lasted a yr, he died in 1893, she didnt seem to have much luck with men she was attracted to, lasting very long, hence she never married. for once, a woman a head of her time, didnt need a man ALL yhe time to be complete

6:28 poor woman no wonder she took off for parts unknown. the men were so boring. wonder if she ever met a man of her same intellect?

Keira Knightley would have been so much better. Great photography. Having said this – this is just a soap opera and doesn't give us a clue what this great woman did. The producer and directer got lost in the production, not the story…

Wow! To watch a movie about history so profound is amazing. I had never heard of Gertrude Bell. I will be seeking to buy and read her autobiography or bio.

So why don't they teach about woman like this in school instead of paying attention to airheads like the Kardashians etc?

I don't understand why this film got such negative review. It's beautifully filmed and is slow enough that the viewer get to enjoy the scenery and the rich colors of the dessert. I think the actors was just right for this prude Era in history, and passions are well played out for the time it's portraying. I so enjoyed not seeing meaty lustful sex scenes. This movie is very relevant for showing a bit of the background to what is still going on in The Middle East today.

This is the third Werner Herzog's film I've seen. The others were Aguirre the Wrath of God, and Fitzcarraldo. All three are made up of dreamscapes and mood portrayal. Herzog says he is a poet, but a poet isn't great unless he actually brings us into his vision, causing us to feel and think it. There is action in this film, but very little to help us understand how and why. Instead of seeing how Gertrude Bell experienced for herself that the Ottoman Empire was becoming tribes again, Herzog prefers dreamy, flimsy interactions. Go read Wikipedia about Gertrude Bell. You'll get a fascinating and compelling story of her, not Herzog's pretty but watery images.
