Question for men: are you able to have sex with your wife/girlfriend even if you’re upset with her, if you’re arguing, or if the non-sexual aspects of your relationship aren’t going well?

I was reading a book called *Men are Like Waffles, Women are Like Spaghetti* by Pam and Bill Farrel and one of the main points was that men, unlike women, can separate their sexuality from the other aspects of their life. Men can engage in sex no matter what other issues they’re facing. Essentially, according to the authors, sex is purely carnal and physical for men and has no mental/emotional component.

This seems completely contradictory to reality, though. A man’s libido is obviously also susceptible to stress, anxiety, fatigue, and various mental/physical issues. And from what I’ve seen and read elsewhere, men need to feel sexually desired by their partners and need to know they can satisfy their partner’s sexual needs in order to enjoy the experience. What are your thoughts?
