God, this was pure torture to sit through. I had to take like 25 breaks. Watched the whole thing and don't really have a clue what it was about, other than this lady drinking her life away.
Loved this film. I can relate to so many aspects. Alcoholism touches so many and we don't even realize it till our later years! I have a 30 yr old son that still doesn't want anything to do with me. Hopefully time will heal this relationship
Loved it. I hope she wins the academy award for this. It was so real and authentic. But the academy tends to favor Blanchett. She's the winner in my eyes.
This little film packs a huge, meaningful punch. I understand the concerns of the last-minute push for the Oscar nom, but this is a remarkable piece of filmmaking & with great acting. Riseborough is spectacular! I know others are deserving of Oscar noms, and there are only a few spots for so many, but she is tremendous. And for a super small film with no budget for PR or doing the pre-Oscar interviews, it is kind of cool she got nominated.
I'm not big on redemption movies and this one had no real surprises, but it wasn't bad. The lead actress was quite good and I just loved Marc Maron and Andre Royo (sp?) too – their performances were exquisite, seamless! Impressive independent, low-budget film. Well-done. Congrats!
I had never heard of this micro budget indie that made ten cents at the box office or British actress Andrea Riseborough who surprisingly got a Best Actress nod, but she indeed gives the kind of lived in, balls to the wall white trash performance that recalls Hilary Swank in "Boys Don't Cry" or Jodie Foster in "The Accused" as a desperate, homeless alcoholic who won the lottery, drank it away and alienated everyone in her life. The brilliant Allison Janney, done up like a mowed down cowgirl, describes her as "road hard and hung wet." Taking place in a dive bar and motel in a crummy West Texas hamlet no one wants to live in (the sets & costumes look like they came from Goodwill), it's a simple tale of redemption beautifully told. The real revelation is Marc Maron as a lonely man who comes to Leslie's rescue. A natural actor, he shows none of the arch intelligence he exhibits in his stand up and inhabits the role like a Julliard graduate. I was a blubbering mess at the end.

I haven"t cried for a netflix movie in a long time…but this one really got me.
Watched after hearing Marc talk about it on his podcast. Amazing movie! "Bubbles" was a nice surprise.

This hit home in so many ways — Thank you Ryan Binaco for such a wonderful gift in this story.

Well. I suppose I know why she upset every Oscar Prediction under the sun.
A remarkable job-well-done to Andrea Riseborough. 👏
