Weekly Internet Roundup: Rick and Morty Get Cancelled, Greta Gets Arrested, and Pink Sauce Hits Walmart – Memebase – Armessa Gifs & Memes

[ad_1]

Welcome to another week of the Internet Roundup. We’re officially over the hump of Blue Monday, aka the most depressing day of the year. Of course, this means we’ve got to celebrate with a summary of assorted online happenings. Included are a couple of things that technically were big news before now, because you know what? Right now, times are hard and friends are few, and I don’t want anybody feeling like they got shortchanged last week. Let’s get started.

Greta Thunberg Continues to Be a Meme Icon

We thought that Greta Thunberg had done her share of heavy lifting in internet culture with her historic putdown of Andrew Tate late last year, but it appears that she wasn’t done yet. Her number one priority was always activism, so it makes sense that she has hit the meme headlines with something actually related to that.

Thunberg was protesting the planned demolition of Lützerath, Germany in order to expand a coal mine. This led to her being arrested and carried away by German police. The photo of the event quickly became memeified, and also prompted accusations of it being staged. Whether or not you think that the whole thing was just done for the cameras, there’s no denying that the picture is going to haunt the varied genre of object labeling memes for some time yet.

Justin Roiland: Confirmed Awful Person

So far, 2023 has proved to be a pretty terrible year for famous men who suck in real life. Channel 5’s Andrew Callaghan has been slammed for his apology video after allegations of sexual assault, and Justin Roiland hasn’t even got that far. Not only is the Rick and Morty co-creator going to court for an incident of domestic abuse, he’s also been outed for some extreme creepiness in the DMs of female fans, some underage. It’s fair to say that Twitter wasted no time in mocking him. With these kinds of allegations, it’s hard to blame them.

Pink Sauce Expands Its Reign of Terror

Failing upwards is an artform, and Chef Pii seems to have perfected it. Last year, her Pink Sauce got mercilessly roasted on social media after she sold the dubious mixture from her TikTok account without any FDA approval. Despite complaints of inconsistency and its seemingly indescribable taste, she has now managed to strike a deal with Walmart.

However, it seems like the old complaints remain. People have raised eyebrows at the fact that every bottle on the shelf seems to be a different color. Considering its runaway popularity last summer, it may not make a dent in the sales. You’re probably less likely to get food poisoning if you put coloring in some ranch instead.

The Police Officer and the Polycule

United States law enforcement has been in the bad books of most people with a conscience since just about forever, but nobody could have seen this latest misdemeanor coming. A sex scandal that rocked La Vergne Police Department in Tennessee became a hot topic recently, because the internet was impressed with the persistent rizz of one Maegan Olivia Hall.

Hall was terminated from her job at the end of last year after a complaint was filed about her sexual relationships with up to eight other officers in her department (who were also fired or suspended). The story hit local news, then national, then 4chan’s /pol/ board and Twitter. At that point, the rest is lewd meme history. Guess there’s a reason that some people love cop roleplay so much.

That’s everything, for the time being. Rest assured we’ll be on the look out for more ridiculous things to relay to you next week. See you round!
