The promo for Grey’s Anatomy season 19, episode 13 is hinting at the beginning of the end of Maggie’s time as a series regular, but one line from Amelia makes her upcoming exit even more heartbreaking. Maggie’s sendoff episode will premiere on April 13 as Kelly McCreary exits Grey’s Anatomy after nine seasons of playing Maggie Pierce, Meredith’s half-sister and head of cardio. In her time on Grey’s Anatomy, she has formed many relationships, and Maggie’s friendship with Amelia is one of the best relationships in the series.

Much of Maggie’s storyline in Grey’s Anatomy has centered around her failing marriage with Winston, and McCreary’s exit spells more bad news for Maggie and Winston. Yet, her relationship with Winston may not even be the most important relationship she has in the series. As much as Maggie is struggling with the deterioration of her marriage, she was just as, if not more, worried about her relationship with Amelia now that their common denominator, Meredith, has left Seattle. Amelia reassured Maggie telling her that, “just because Meredith moved, nothing has changed between us,” but with Maggie moving as well, things are sure to change between the chosen sisters.

Amelia Is Losing All Of Her Sisters In Grey’s Anatomy

Meredith leaving for Boston in the Grey’s Anatomy season 19 winter premiere was a big enough blow for Amelia, but Maggie leaving as well means that Amelia is losing all of her chosen sisters. One line made this even more heartbreaking as she told Link in season 19, episode 12 when talking about Addison, “I think the universe knows it screwed up when it gave me my biological sisters, so it gave me Addison, and Meredith, and Maggie.” Amelia has always had a complicated relationship with her biological family and the sisters the universe gave her were often her saving grace through all her struggles.

The Grey’s Anatomy season 19, episode 13 promo video suggested that Maggie will be moving to Chicago following a job offer from the Heart Center of Chicago and while she and Meredith will return in the season 19 finale, it will not be the same between them. On top of this, while Addison, fortunately, survived the hit-and-run outside Bailey’s clinic, by the end of the episode, she was back in the PRT to travel across the country. Meredith and Addison are already gone, which will make Maggie leaving in Grey’s Anatomy season 19, episode 14 even harder for Amelia.

Amelia Is Now The Grey’s Anatomy Character Who’s Experienced The Most Loss

As the former Grey’s Anatomy main character, Meredith used to be the character who had faced the most trauma and loss, as Meredith almost died numerous times and also lost both of her parents, her half-sister, and her husband, along with multiple friends during her time on the series. Now that Meredith’s gone, Amelia is the character who has suffered the most losses in the Grey’s Anatomy universe, having lost her father, brother, son, and fiancé. Maggie, Addison, and Meredith may not have died, but having her chosen sisters spread out across the country will certainly give Amelia reason to mourn once again in Grey’s Anatomy.
