After years of teasing, ABC has finally confirmed that The Golden Bachelor, the senior spin-off of The Bachelor, will premiere this fall, and there are several single male celebrities who would make for an excellent lead. The Golden Bachelor was initially revealed to fans in 2020, with a casting commercial aired during Peter Weber’s season of The Bachelor. Since then, there’s been much speculation online about when the spin-off would come to fruition and who might serve as the lead.
It was recently confirmed that the spin-off, now titled The Golden Bachelor, is in production with a planned premiere date in fall 2023. The new Bachelor Nation show will feature a different kind of love journey, featuring older cast members. It also seems that the first season will feature a male lead, and there’s already excitement building online. Though the spin-off is unlikely to land a celebrity as a lead, there are many single, over-50 male stars who would make a great lead and bring more attention to the franchise.
10 Liam Neeson
Liam Neeson, the 70-year-old Irish actor, tragically lost his wife, Natasha Richardson, 14 years ago in a tragic skiing accident. Since then, Liam has taken it easy when it comes to dating. It’s unclear whether he’s actually interested in a new relationship, but based on how he handled his wife’s death, it’s clear that he loves deeply. Liam could be an emotionally mature and genuine lead, while bringing his star-status to the position.
9 Lenny Kravitz
At age 58, Lenny Kravitz does seem a little young to be considered a “senior,” though in Bachelor years, he’s practically ancient. Lenny was married to actress Lisa Bonet for a time, and after their divorce he was romantically tied to several models and actresses. However, it doesn’t seem that Lenny has found the love he’s looking for. It’s possible that he could find someone special on The Golden Bachelor, and he would certainly boost ratings. The popular rocker could bring an interesting edge to the spin-off and would be fascinating to watch.
8 Bill Gates
Bill Gates was suggested by Bachelor Nation fans to be the senior lead back when he announced his divorce in 2021. Even back then, viewers believed that the accomplished and wealthy 67-year-old bachelor would have many interested suitors. Though he’s not as flashy as some of the other celebrities on this list, there would undoubtedly be some women only interested in his money, which would make for compelling drama. Though Bill reportedly began dating someone new this year, it’s a relationship that could fizzle out, leaving him single for the spin-off.
7 Jim Carrey
Jim Carrey would certainly make for an entertaining lead, as the actor is known for his amazing character work and sense of humor. Though Jim has been married twice, the 61-year-old clearly hasn’t found “the one” yet. Casting him as The Golden Bachelor lead would cause a huge splash, because he’s such a star. However, it’s doubtful that he would accept such a role, considering he seems to prefer a quiet life away from the spotlight these days.
6 Kevin Costner
Kevin Costner has certainly been unlucky in love, and very recently announced his split from his latest wife. Though he reportedly wants to win her back, his now-ex doesn’t seem interested. Kevin’s best bet is to move on, and if he thinks he’s ready for something serious, The Golden Bachelor could be his ticket to new love. Because the 68-year-old is not as flashy of a celebrity as some of the others on this list, Kevin’s star power wouldn’t overwhelm the show or the women, but rather add to the overall excitement.
5 Andy Cohen
Another younger option for The Golden Bachelor lead, 54-year-old Andy Cohen would be an exciting option. Though he hasn’t revealed much about his love life, Andy is openly gay, which would open the door for The Bachelor franchise to produce a queer season of the show. It would be two monumental firsts for the franchise, and Andy could end up being an extremely compelling lead. However, the single father of two is tied to the Bravo network, and is probably contractually prevented from starring as the lead of an ABC reality TV show.
4 Anderson Cooper
Anderson Cooper, however, may have more contractual flexibility. Like Andy, Anderson is openly gay, which would inject much needed diversity into the franchise. As journalist and political commentator, Anderson has unique skills that could help him thrive as the lead of a reality TV show. Both Anderson and Andy would be excellent options as leads to help ABC make The Bachelor franchise more progressive, inclusive, and, frankly, interesting.
3 Antonio Banderas
Spanish actor and director, Antonio Banderas, isn’t in the spotlight as much as he once was, but there’s no denying he would be a compelling and vibrant lead. Antonio’s most recent marriage ended in 2015, and since then the 62-year-old has been actively dating. However, he and his current girlfriend haven’t yet tied the knot, so there’s always the chance that Antonio could find himself back on the market. If that were the case, there’d likely be scores of applicants looking to win his heart.
2 Brad Pitt
Talk about star power, Brad Pitt is about as A-list as they get, so it would be unlikely that he would ever slum it by going on reality TV. However, if he did agree to be the lead of The Golden Bachelor, the 59-year-old would probably break the internet. A season with Brad would be unlike any other Bachelor season that came before it, and ratings would undoubtedly go through the roof. This is, of course, extremely unlikely, but what a season it would be.
1 Gabby Windey’s Grandpa, John
Though Grandpa John isn’t exactly famous, he certainly is among Bachelor Nation fans. The elderly man made a splash on Clayton Echard’s season of The Bachelor, when then-contestant Gabby Windey brought him home to meet her family. Grandpa John immediately delighted viewers with his frank attitude and undeniable charm. Even then, there were calls for Grandpa John to become the senior Bachelor spin-off lead. However, despite how perfect he would be as the lead, Grandpa John has expressed undying loyalty to his late wife, and probably has no interest in becoming the lead of The Golden Bachelor.
