Vanderpump Rules season 10’s explosive finale gave Tom Sandoval the opportunity to own up to his infidelity, but his excuses for cheating on Ariana Madix were very weak. Tom, who had been betraying Ariana with her close friend Raquel Leviss for seven months when the finale was filmed, spent the majority of the episode talking about his thinking surrounding the affair. From a deeply emotional confrontation with Ariana to a difficult-to-watch heart-to-heart with Raquel, Tom accounted for his actions throughout the episode without really doing much to explain his motivations.
Tom and Ariana were together for nearly a decade before the Scandoval news ruined their relationship. While the couple was clearly having issues throughout Vanderpump Rules season 10, the finale episode made it clear that Tom has more issues with their relationship than Ariana did. His affair with Raquel, which Tom spoke about in incredibly odd terms, was something that he was clearly trying to justify, rather than be held accountable for. As Tom continued from person to person, he was apologetic on the surface, but there was an undercurrent of him trying to defend himself. He tried to share that his, “deep emotional connection” with Raquel was never forgotten.
10 Tom Sandoval Turned 40
While Tom’s lied about his age in the past, during the Vanderpump Rules season 10 finale, he was open about the fact that he’d turned 40 recently, and felt a, “shift”. During his conversation with Ariana, Tom said something about, “losing my mojo” because of their lack of a sex life. He followed this up, a bit more calmly, by talking about his feard about aging. “Once I turned 40,” Tom explained, “I was like, ‘this can’t be the rest of my life’.” Ariana validated Tom ito a degree, stating, “that is a very normal thing,” before saying that therapy should’ve been part of his solution, rather than an affair.
9 Tom Didn’t Want To Hurt Ariana’s Feelings
Tom spent several moments trying to explain that he was carrying on his affair with Raquel in secret, and not breaking up with Ariana, so that he wouldn’t hurt his girlfriend’s feelings. He first noted this in his conversation with Ariana, but it became more clear as he continued his apology tour. During his conversation with Schwartz, he explained that Ariana could’ve caught him, and when he spoke to Lisa Vanderpump, Tom said, “I didn’t want to hurt her – and Ariana has a hard time trusting people.” “Well, what’s she going to have now?” Lisa countered, with no response.
8 Tom Was Feeling A Lot Of Pressure Because Of TomTom
Though this is mentioned more in the scope of Schwartz’s issues with the affair, Tom makes it clear that he was dealing with a lot of pressure in his life. There was the opening of TomTom, which has dragged on through the season. In a flashback, Schwartz and his ex-wife Katie Maloney are shown talking about TomTom. She asks him if the bar was. “worth” losing a relationship over. Tom Sandoval, much like Schwartz, had been dealing with the ups and downs of TomTom on a regular basis, and expressed that he was using Raquel as more of an escape from the pressures of day-to-day life.
7 Raquel Gave Tom Attention & Affection
During Tom’s conversation with Ariana, he made it clear that a lot of his needs weren’t being met in his relationship with her. In turn, he made it abundantly clear that he was receiving all of those things and more from his relationship with Raquel. He felt that his connection with Rachel was deeper and more emotional than his ten-year partnership. “We became really good friends, like I was seeking something that I wasn’t getting here. And that’s selfish, that’s really selfish,” Tom explained. He added,“it was about a connection where we were actually respecting each other and giving each other confidence.”
6 Tom & Raquel Have A “Deep” Connection
Doubling down on trying to ensure that his relationship with Ariana was diminished publicly, Tom was very quick to make sure that anyone he was speaking to knew that he had a, “deep” connection with Raquel. During his conversation with Ariana, he shared, “it’s real because she treats me with f***ing respect, something I haven’t gotten from you in a long time.” When he spoke to Schwartz, he explained, “Raquel and I, we have a very f***ing deep connection.” Finally, when he spoke to Raquel, he shared, “it just kinda came out of left field…[you’re] amazing.”
5 Tom Was Scared Ariana Would Do Something Drastic
During Tom’s conversation with Scheana, he made it clear that he was concerned about Ariana’s deteriorating mental health throughout the time he was sleeping with Raquel. He used the fact that Ariana was in a bad place as an excuse for not telling her about the affair earlier, trying to make it look like he was doing it out of care for her. “I tried to [break up with Ariana],” Tom explained, when Scheana wondered why he was continuing to take their relationship so seriously. He said, “She threatened to f***ing kill herself.” Scheana ripped into Tom for his excuse, giving him very little room to excuse his behavior.
4 Tom Felt Disrespected By Ariana
Tom spoke candidly about how he felt in his relationship with Ariana, making her out to be the villain repeatedly, rather than taking accountability for the fact that he chose to sleep with someone they were both close to. He told Ariana that Raquel has respect for him, then went on to share that he and Raquel, “were actually respecting each other and giving each other confidence.” He made it clear that he didn’t feel like he was getting either of those things from his relationship with Ariana. Though he admitted that Ariana defended him to everyone in their friend group, he still felt disrespected by his long-time partner.
3 Tom & Ariana Weren’t Getting Intimate
For several Vanderpump Rules seasons, Tom and Ariana have been open about their intimacy problems, which have followed them through years of their relationship. Though they’ve traditionally resolved the issues, and seemed to be better for their conflict-resolution skills, Tom begged to differ, He was open throughout the last several episodes about the fact that he and Ariana weren’t having sex. During the confrontation, he flatly said, “we have no sex life,” as an excuse for why he felt comfortable sleeping with Raquel.
2 Tom “Lost His Mojo” During His Relationship With Ariana
After commenting on their lack of intimacy, Tom was candid with Ariana about the fact that he felt he lost his, “mojo” during their time together. “I lost all my mojo,” Tom said to Ariana, his voice eerily quiet. Ariana was quick to chime in, a faux smile on her face, as she countered, “so f*** my friend, so f*** my friend then. Get your mojo back, f*** my friend.” Tom dug his heels in on the topic, but refused to acknowledge the fact that he’d done anything wrong.

During Tom’s conversation with Schwartz in the Vanderpump Rules season 10 finale, Tom explained that every time he would consider trying to talk to Ariana about his cheating, it, “seemed like she didn’t want to know,” so he wouldn’t tell her. Later in the conversation, Tom said, “Ariana never asked…all she would’ve had to do was follow me and see that I’m [not where I said I’d be].” Trying to put the blame on Ariana, Schwartz was quick to counter with, “you don’t want to put that responsibility on her,” but the damage was clearly already done.
