Kelsey Grammer is returning as Frasier in the reboot, but many original Frasier cast members won’t be joining him. Paramount+ is bringing back the beloved highbrow therapist to the small screen via the 10-episode first season of the Frasier reboot. In the project, Frasier finds himself back in his old stomping grounds during Cheers — Boston. Now on his fourth and potentially final act, Frasier’s return to Beantown is motivated by his desire to repair his fractured relationship with his grown-up son, Freddy. However, moving back to the East Coast means many of his family and friends from Seattle won’t make an appearance.

Getting the Frasier reboot off the ground was no easy feat. Cracking the story for the project proved to be more challenging than initially perceived. In the end, Grammer and his team decided that Frasier coming back to Boston was the best way to move the character forward. None of the original Seattle-based characters will be back as series regulars in the revival. However, Peri Gilpin is confirmed to reprise his role as Roz Doyle in a guest capacity. Meanwhile, Bebe Neuwirth is also returning as Frasier’s ex-wife, Lilith, which makes sense, considering Freddy’s involvement. Aside from them, however, many other original characters will be missed in the reboot.

8 Niles Crane (David Hyde Pierce)

NBC walked back on Frasier’s claim in Cheers that he was an only child when they realized how much David Hyde Pierce resembled a young Grammer. The plot inconsistency proved to be worth it as Pierce’s Niles was one of the best things in the original Frasier. Given this, it’s a massive disappointment that he won’t be back in the reboot. This shouldn’t be surprising, however, Pierce has been vocal against rebooting Frasier. Per Grammer, however, Pierce turned down the offer to join the Paramount+ endeavor because he didn’t want to do a repeat of his award-winning performance in the first show.

7 Martin Crane (John Mahoney)

In 2018, just as Grammer was starting to actively work on reviving Frasier, John Mahoney died at the age of 77. Brilliantly playing Martin Crane in the Cheers off-shoot, he was arguably the heart of the whole series, with his relationship with Frasier being the show’s best love story. Mahoney’s Martin may not have any physical presence in the Frasier reboot, but Grammer has promised that they will honor the legacy of both the actor and his beloved character. It’s currently uncertain, however, if Martin’s real-life demise will be reflected in the narrative of the new show.

6 Daphne Moon (Jane Leeves)

Frasier’s homecoming saw his reunion with his family in Seattle, but the original show also introduced a string of other characters who made his time in the Pacific Northwest more interesting. That includes the Manchester native, Jane Leeves’ Daphne Moon — Martin’s home healthcare worker who eventually marries Niles. She was integral to the show’s overall dynamic given her unique relationship with each Crane, especially since she somehow kept the peace between Frasier and his father in the early years of the series. Like Pierce, however, Leeves turned down the opportunity of returning in the Paramount+ endeavor. In any case, it would only raise questions if she appears without her husband.

5 Eddie (Moose)

Aside from Martin’s fate, the Frasier reboot may have to also deal with another death with his pet dog, Eddie. While the original sitcom didn’t explicitly reveal how old Eddie was during its run, he was already in Martin’s care for a few years before its events. Add the show’s 11-year run plus the 19 years since it ended and chances are that Jack Russell Terrier has already died of old age. In real life, the original dog who played the part, Moose, passed away in 2006. Like what happened to Martin, it’s imperative that the Paramount+ revival also finds a way to address Eddie’s death.

4 Bob “Bulldog” Briscoe (Dan Butler)

Frasier’s new job as a radiotherapist in Seattle’s KACL introduced him to a string of new characters. Aside from his producer, Roz, the other most prominent character from that station was Bob “Bulldog” Briscoe, who hosted Gonzo Sports Show. Bulldog was a prominent player in Frasier during its first few seasons, however, his appearances became more sporadic as the comedy went on. He was notably absent during Frasier’s farewell speech in the series finale despite the fact that he was back working at KACL. Considering Frasier’s move to Boston, however, it makes sense that Bulldog isn’t going to be around in the reboot.

3 Gil Chesterton (Edward Hibbert)

Another standout from Frasier’s workplace was Gil Chesterton, the host of Restaurant Beat on KACL. Admittedly, Frasier didn’t have as much interaction with Gil during his time in Seattle, which is interesting, considering the fact that they have similar likes and preferences. Still, there were enough interactions between Frasier and Gil to establish a relationship. It’s uncertain what happened to Gil after Frasier left KACL, perhaps, he continued his stint at the radio station. However, like Bulldog, Frasier’s move to Seattle makes it difficult to bring him back.

2 Ronnee Lawrence Crane (Wendie Malick)

Towards the end of Frasier‘s run, it introduced Ronee Lawrence, Frasier and Niles’ old babysitter. Her return to the Crane family’s life started when she had a chance meeting with Frasier, who was hoping to finally act on his attraction to her. Unfortunately for the snooty psychiatrist, Ronee had her eyes set on Martin. The pair eventually married, prompting the Crane patriarch to move out of Frasier’s apartment. Ronee’s fate is tied to what happens to Martin in the Frasier reboot, assuming that they have stayed together after tying the knot in the finale.

1 Charlotte Connor (Laura Linney)

In the Cheers‘ spin-off’s final season, Frasier met Charlotte Connor, a Chicago-based matchmaker whom he begrudgingly hired in an effort to fix his flailing love life. What he didn’t know was that he was going to fall in love with her. Frasier was planning on relocating to San Francisco after he was offered a job to host a TV show in the finale. However, he opted to follow Charlotte to Chicago in the hopes of being with her. The original Frasier show left their fate ambiguous, ending after Frasier’s plane landed in the Windy City.

No official word on whether there were plans to bring Laura Linney back, but she has revealed that she isn’t involved in the new show. Their fate is one of the biggest mysteries that the Frasier reboot must answer, and it’s curious how they will do that without Charlotte appearing — unless Frasier’s grand romantic gesture ended up not working.
