Although Ty Burrell may have lent his voice to Jack in Hulu’s Duncanville, (which, as announced by Digital Spy, has recently ended after three seasons), most of the world knows him best for playing the fun-loving Dunphy patriatch, Phil, in Modern Family.
Phil was such an eccentric character, who happened to steal a lot of scenes he was in. In addition, people used his character’s quirks as a way to make memes; many of which do more than an excellent job of helping describe this award-winning character.

As this meme shows, Phil has had some wacky invention; one of which is the Real Head Scratcher. However, it just so happens that something similar to Phil’s infamous invention is currently available on the internet. Naturally, this absurd thing being real had to make it into the meme world.
Phil’s eccentric attitude allows him to make things like this. Seeing them in real life shows Phil’s creativity. He thinks of things long before others do, but he is not good at executing ideas. It, more often than not, leads to him just having a bunch of humorous junk

Phil Dunphy is a character that is always equipped with dad jokes or a super fun greetings. Whether they are great or among the worst is up for debate, but he always likes to make good puns. When his name is involved in the pun, such as this one, it is way more obvious. He just has to make the joke.
These puns are part of what made Phil feel so special. He is a complete goofball who says some of the most ridiculous stuff, but it helps with the show. It improves the dynamics with his kids, but also his more serious wife and extended family. They are part of what makes Phil so endearing.
Phil Was A Family Man
Phil is not always the best husband. His overt crush on Gloria gets more than a little creepy at times, regardless if it is perceived by the family as harmless or not. However, he does have a lot of love for his family and will be there to defend them (as demonstrated by this meme).
Phil actually has a few things in common with SpongeBob SquarePants, namely that both of them have childish qualities. However, both are also extremely close to those around them. Phil would not let anyone hurt his family, and shows throughout the series that he does try to be a good dad and even sometimes, husband.
Phil Was A Great Prankster
WandaVision had a deep love for many generations of sitcoms, and that includes the mockumentary style of Modern Family. This creator of this meme seems to have jumped on the opportunity to find more similarities between the two shows – with them drawing a comparison between MCU’s “Agatha” and Phil’s Ida.
Perhaps it would make sense to cast Phil as a witch during this type of situation. He does show both a wicked sense of humor and the use of mind tricks and deception in order to achieve this spooky trick. Plus, Ty Burrell was in The Incredible Hulk, giving the Marvel connection even more merit.
Phil Always Ended Up Getting Distracted
Modern Family has its fair share of gags, one notable one being the broken stair that Phil just does not fix. While he may be focused on his eccentric sayings, he sometimes loses sight of what is important. With the stairs, he just loses sight of the task at hand.
Phil is a very funny character who cares a lot for his family but tries to be buddies with his kids, which can be difficult for them as he is their father. His complete neglect of the stair however is different. Phil cares for and loves his kids, he just gets distracted. He couldn’t care less about fixing that step.
Surprise
No one likes to have people talking behind their backs. It can make simple things far more stressful than they ever needed to be. However, it does happen, and it’s something that many people just have to live with. Still, that does make it nice when the friends are actually making a surprise.
Phil just wants approval. Even when embarrassing his kids, Modern Family fans can see he is still looking for their approval of him. He wants it from Jay, Claire, and everyone else. He would get paranoid far worse than others from seeing people talk behind his back. On the flip side, he would also respond emotionally to a positive surprise. Phil is a child at heart that simply wants to be loved.
No One Ever Forgets Phil’s Alter Ego, Clive Bixby
Phil Dunphy is a man of different hats but when he is looking to spice things up with Claire, he is a man of different names. While Phil was very immature and said a lot of odd things, Clive was a smooth talker who had no problem getting the attention of women. This led to some very funny moments and this meme (which helps summarize Modern Family overall)
The endearing part of Clive, along with Claire’s alter ego Juliana, is the fact that they show some effort going into the marriage. Both of them want each other to be happy and these alter egos reflect that. It helps make this family, which should be as dysfunctional as many other sitcom families, work.
Phil Was A Trustworthy Guy

While Phil may be trying to sell people’s homes throughout the show, he is very trustworthy. Some of that comes down to his lack of self-awareness, but audiences feel that he is one of the people that they really get to know during the show.
This simple meme may be very basic, but it gets to the point. Phil cares about people. In addition, unless it involves role-playing with Claire, he is always true to himself. In a world that can be full of fake people, this makes Phil even more of a breath of fresh air.
Phil Was Known For His Jealousy
At times, Phil was known for getting particularly jealous. One of them was when he was getting mad about another man making Claire laugh (which was one of his biggest pet peeves).
While there were plenty of great traits to Phil, this wasn’t one that fans liked to see appear a lot since he could become very petty. However, it also made him quite relatable since it showed the audience that he wasn’t as perfect as everyone made him out to be. He was just as flawed as everyone on the show.
