90 Day Fiancé star Ella Johnson had a stunning 58-pound weight loss since her split with Chinese boyfriend, Johnny Chao. The 29-year-old from Idaho Falls, Idaho starred in 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days season 5, while waiting for Johnny to come to stay with her in America during the peak COVID-19 pandemic. Johnny was excited to be meeting Ella at first, but soon got cold feet when he realized his irresponsible traveling could come at the cost of his young son and his older parents’ health.
During her confessional, Ella spoke about being obsessed with the “Asian culture,” and how she hit the jackpot when she met her Asian prince, Johnny. Ella opened up about never having received any attention from males. “I’ve struggled with being overweight ever since I was in kindergarten,” she said. While Ella didn’t feel like she was different when she was growing up, other people did, such as her classmates who made her feel “unwanted.” Ella wasn’t treated the way she should’ve been after she grew up, and even though she felt Johnny was a green flag, he was also no different.

While walking into a Chinese medicine doctor’s office in his debut 90 Day Fiancé clip, Johnny said, “If there is a problem I gonna find a solution.” He told the doctor, “She’s American and I’m trying to help her lose weight.” Johnny spoke about Ella having a beautiful face and a lovely personality. Still, he added, “Ella’s current size she’s kind of a little big, especially her belly,” and wanted to help Ella with weight loss, so she could “become more beautiful.” The doctor referred to Ella’s condition as “obesity brought by eating too much.” In a different scene, Johnny met his friends, who asked him if “Ella’s figure influences your sexual relationship?”
The friend added, “Once it happens, you’ll be pressed and suffocated,” and instead of defending Ella, Johnny agreed with him. Not surprisingly, Ella had joined the gym to become slim for Johnny. She feared Johnny would tell her, “You’re bigger than I expected” upon meeting her. Ella wanted to lose 10 pounds before Johnny could come to the U.S. By September 2022, Ella confirmed her relationship with Johnny had ended. Ella had already lost 25 pounds, perhaps while she waited for Johnny to get there.

Now single, Ella didn’t give up on her weight loss journey, just because she was no longer with her boyfriend. Ella didn’t exactly give timely updates about her weight loss, but did keep sharing Instagram posts of herself in which she kept getting smaller with each picture. By May 2023, Ella captioned an IG post, “Here are some pictures for ya been working hard here at the ranch fulltime,” in which she showed her new figure in a full-length photo. In another recent post, Ella confirmed, “So far, I have lost 58 lbs.” Ella’s new body gave her a new kind of confidence to open up to her supportive fans.

In the comments, a fan asked Ella, “What’s the secret? I need help too!” Ella had already shared that working on the ranch full-time helped her shed the extra weight. But she also detailed what kind of work she’s been doing every day. “Well I do eat less,” Ella confessed. “I also work hard on the ranch,” she added, mentioning that she bucks a lot of bales daily and also looks after a toddler, which keeps her busy and active in her day-to-day life. “Lol so I would also say a lot of physical activity and more bliss in life,” the 90 Day Fiancé star said, giving advice to the fan.
