When animation extravaganza Shrek first arrived on the scene back in 2001, the iconic comedy soon went on to become one of the most beloved and sought-after children’s movies in the world. Unsurprisingly, the hot commodity eventually spawned a slew of sequels and spin-offs — all of which skyrocketed the franchise’s overall success and helped the series to gross nearly $4 billion at the worldwide box office.

Over on Twitter, devout Shrek fanatics couldn’t help but boast about the franchise’s beaming qualities — with the common consensus proudly declaring that the franchise still remains “god tier.” Of course, when you consider that each of the Shrek movies grossed well over $100 million, it hardly comes as a surprise that the nostalgic license kept moviegoers heading back to megaplexes for more. You can check out the post for yourself down below:

22 years old or not, it’s hard to discount the cultural impact that the entire Shrek franchise has left on the cinematic landscape as a whole. From over-the-top moments to scintillating characters, the film series has maintained its classic status as something that can be enjoyed by viewers of all ages.

That being said, it’s certainly worth noting that we’re all holding out hope for a Shrek 5, although there’s been no official confirmation on when exactly that movie will see its release. Even so, however long it takes for Shrek 5 to happen, die-hard fans will continue to indulge themselves with a necessary rewatch just to get an extra taste of nostalgia.
