Megan Thee Stallion joins the Uncut Gems directors’ new movie. After rising to prominence for writing and directing the crime thrillers Good Time and Uncut Gems, the latter starring Adam Sandler as a jeweler and gambling addict, Josh and Benny Safdie are reuniting with the star for their next film. Specifics regarding the Uncut Gems reunion remain under wraps, though Sandler has revealed the Safdies brothers’ next movie is set “in the sports memorabilia world” and should start shooting this summer.

Now, the Uncut Gems directors’ next movie, which will be for Netflix, is finally starting to round out its cast. Per Deadline, Megan Thee Stallion is in talks to star alongside Sandler and even though Netflix declined to comment, it already sounds like a done deal. There is no word on who the Grammy-winning rapper might be playing.

Megan Thee Stallion’s Casting Continues An Uncut Gems Trend

The Weeknd camoed in Uncut Gems as himself, performing in a nightclub before getting into a fight with Sandler’s Howard Ratner. By casting Megan Thee Stallion, the Safdies have now started a trend of casting pop stars in their movies. However, since Megan Thee Stallion has likely been cast in a leading role alongside Sandler, it is unlikely she will merely be cameoing as herself, as she did in Marvel’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Megan Thee Stallion’s other acting credits include P-Valley, Good Girls, and her upcoming feature film debut in F***ing Identical Twins.

Though Megan Thee Stallion probably won’t be playing herself, the Safdies’ new movie still has a chance for some celebrity cameos. As Sandler revealed, the movie is set in the world of sports memorabilia and could feature some famous sports personalities or athletes playing themselves, similar to Kevin Garnett in Uncut Gems. Though details about the Safdie brothers’ Netflix movie remain limited, its cast appears to be shaping up quite nicely with Sandler and Megan Thee Stallion seemingly as the two lead stars.
