The Dry Steppes are the next location players may explore in Diablo IV after going through the Fractured Peaks, with new Strongholds to liberate from the forces of Hell for new vendors, Waypoints, and side quests. Strongholds are larger pockets of corruption players can fight to unlock fast travel points to make traveling easier. These areas make the world feel larger, giving players a chance to make an impact by helping the victims of Lilth’s spreading evil.
Overall, three Strongholds are in the Dry Steppes, at regions called the Temple of Rot, The Onyx Watchtower, and The Ruins of Qara-Yisu. Players discovering these areas in the Steppes should consider hunting down the Altars of Lilth found in this region to give a permanent stat boost to their character. Doing this makes the challenge of the Strongholds easier since each is designed to have enemies levels above the player’s character.
Onyx Watchtower Stronghold Location
The Onyx Watchtower Stronghold lies near the small town of Ked Bardu, extremely far west of Kyovashad. The place has been taken over by Bandit enemies, who’ll attack the player on sight along with their Lieutenant, who must be killed to spawn the area’s boss. Captain Ezmin must be defeated to free this place from the criminals, giving players access to two new side quests, a Waypoint, and a dungeon that can be beaten for Sorcerer Legendary Aspect in Diablo 4.
Temple of Rot Stronghold Location
Almost toward the southwestern border of the Dry Steppes, players may find the Temple of Rot Stronghold north of Jirandai, a place close to the Kehjistan region in Diablo 4. Several Cannibal Champions occupy this space, guarding prisoners that can drop a free Potion charge for players to collect in preparation for the boss. Clearing the enemies from every area here spawns the boss, which players can beat to receive 100 Renown for their efforts.
All the Strongholds in the Dry Steppes give players 100 Renown, which can be used to earn rewards tied to the game’s different regions, like bonus XP, Skill Points, and increased Potion capacity.
Ruins of Qara-Yisu Stronghold Location
The southeast of the Dry Steppes hosts The Ruins of Qara-Yisu Stronghold, which players might see close by the southern section of the Hidden Overlook. Almost like a dungeon, players will have to explore the Ruins and destroy three Infernal Spires that spawn waves of enemies. Elite enemies are incredibly potent here, so players need to be on their guard to defeat the powerful foes within this Diablo 4 Stronghold.
The Mines below the Ruins hold the final boss once players destroy the Spires, a magic-wielding shaman named Utulku. Utulku creates several Area of Effect (AoE) attacks with red circles and summons minions, making them far more dangerous than some of the other Dry Steppe Stronghold bosses. Once players beat this boss, a Waypoint spawns along with one side quest and two dungeons.
These dungeons in Diablo 4, the Pallid Delve Dungeon and Shifting City Dungeon may be used to respectfully unlock Aspects for the Sorcerer and Rogue classes. Learning where to find all the Dry Steppes Strongholds in Diablo IV makes it far easier for players to travel throughout Sanctuary, especially since Mounts do not unlock until far later in the game’s main story.
