In the latest issue of Marvel Comics’ Avengers, Maya Lopez’ Phoenix gains the power of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes from all over the timeline.

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Avengers #64In the latest issue of Marvel Comics’ Avengers, Echo’s Phoenix just became so much more powerful than she already was. Joining the present-day Avengers who’ve allied themselves with their ancestors from 1,000,000 B.C., both teams of heroes have finally come face to face with the Multiversal Masters of Evil in its entirety. As such, Echo takes on the Masters’ Dark Phoenix while using a brand-new source of power thanks to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes from multiple eras.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In Avengers #64, the fourth part of Jason Aaron’s Avengers Assemble event sees Echo and Jane Foster working together to battle the Dark Phoenix in this new issue with art from Javier Garrón. However, Echo’s Phoenix is eventually able to tap into the power of those the present-day Avengers met during their journey to find the genesis point of heroes and their most ancient Avenging ancestors. As such, Sgt. Szardos, Reno Phoenix and the Starbrand Kid, the Ghost Samurai, and even the prehistoric T. Rex host of the Starbrand all lend their power from their respective eras, amplifying Echo’s power as the current Phoenix, giving her the upper hand over the Dark Phoenix.

Echo’s Phoenix Gains A Major Marvel Power-Up

Phoenix Assembles Avengers Through Time

While Echo doesn’t completely destroy Dark Phoenix, the villain does seem to be greatly incapacitated for the time being. However, the Multiversal Master still manages to escape by taking the form of Iron Man, revealing herself to be a variant of the shape-shifting Mystique who became a corrupt Phoenix host in her own reality. While she may prove to still be dangerous later on near the event’s end, another threat has been confirmed on the horizon, one that’s even bigger than the Multiversal Masters of Evil.

While Doom Supreme was seemingly there at the beginning of the battle with both sets of Avengers, it’s revealed by this new issue’s end that he was never present on Earth-616 at all. Instead, he’s built his own army of Doom variants from across the multiverse, on par with Mephisto and his Council of Red. While Mephisto helped unite the Masters against the Avengers of every era and reality, Doom Supreme was never going to just agree to an alliance with the Demon Lord without some secret agenda or backup plan.

Now, the Avengers are going to have to contend not only with a legion of Mephistos but also a full force of Doctor Doom variants. While the Avengers have done something similar in the connecting Avengers Forever series with an army of Captain Americas and the Carol Corps to provide Captain Marvel-styled air support, it’s anyone’s guess how Avengers Assemble will end. Either way, the fact that Echo’s Phoenix received such a major power-up from key Avengers throughout history is very cool indeed. Avengers #64 is on sale now from Marvel Comics.
