The PlayStation Plus Collection is shutting down on May 9, 2023, leaving many to wonder if they can still access their claimed games afterward. Players can rest easy knowing any of the PS Plus Collection titles claimed prior to May 9 will still be available so long as they have an active PlayStation Plus subscription. After the PS Plus Collection closes, any pre-saved titles stay in users’ libraries to re-download at a later date regardless of what PS Plus tier they’re on. Those who haven’t been able to take advantage of Sony’s deal before then will have to pay whatever prices the titles are going for on the PS Store going forward, although with all 20 titles being several years old and part of a previous console generation, it’s unlikely that they will be priced too high.
Those who are subscribed to PlayStation Plus’ Extra tier can access and download a catalog of hundreds of PS4 and PS5 games, and those who are on Premium have the bonus of PS1 and PSP games to download, and PS3 titles to stream. Therefore, it’s likely that most of the 20 titles that make up the PlayStation Plus Collection will still be included there for players to download anyway. This probably factored into Sony’s decision to shut down the separate Collection deal in the first place, inciting more subscribers to upgrade to these higher tiers.
The news of the PlayStation Plus Collection shutting down will surely disappoint those who have yet to acquire a PlayStation 5, as the perk remains exclusive to Sony’s current-gen console. It is good that those who have already taken advantage of the deal will be able to download the acclaimed games long after it ends, and there’s still plenty of time for recent buyers of the console and those who haven’t redeemed the PlayStation Plus Collection’s titles and added them to their libraries yet to do so before the May 9 deadline.
