Dan Harmon Met With Zack Snyder About Rick & Morty Movie – Armessa Movie News

Summary

  • “Rick and Morty” co-creator Dan Harmon once had a meeting with Zack Snyder about a possible movie adaptation of the popular animated series.
  • Despite Snyder’s darker filmmaking style, he expressed interest in teaming up with Harmon for a comedic project like a “Rick and Morty” movie.
  • While the details of their collaboration remain uncertain, both Harmon and Snyder appear to be enthusiastic about making their dream film project a reality.

Dan Harmon gives details on his meeting with Zack Snyder about making a Rick & Morty movie. Justin Roiland may be out after his firing in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations, but Adult Swim’s acclaimed animated sci-fi comedy will roll on with all-new highly-anticipated episodes. Stepping in for co-creator and voice actor Roiland are two as-yet-unnamed soundalikes who will take over giving voice to Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith as they set off on more of their signature wild adventures.

As the Rick and Morty season 7 release date approaches, show co-creator Harmon is once again talking about the possibility of taking the action to the big-screen with a theatrical movie, and indeed just detailed a meeting he had over the possibility of making a film centered on the universe’s smartest mad scientist and his long-suffering grandson. Speaking to THR, Harmon revealed that he once had a meeting with no less a figure than one-time DCEU mastermind Snyder, an avowed Rick and Morty fan, who offered his services in helping get a movie off the ground. Check out what Harmon said below:

“Not him saying, ‘I get to do it,’ or anything like that. He was totally a super fan and was just like, ‘Is there any way I can help get that movie started by using my Snyder-ness? … So, the Rick and Morty movie is coming as soon as Zack Snyder gets back from his vacation, because I want to start with a Snyder cut of that movie and then I want to do the director’s cut of a Snyder cut release, so we can just have a six-hour Rick and Morty movie and three hours of it is in black and white.”

Snyder Has Spoken Before of His Rick and Morty Dreams

Snyder has of course made his own films set in science-fiction environments, including his upcoming Netflix feature Rebel Moon, but his takes on the genre have been decidedly darker and more serious than the madcap Rick and Morty. Snyder indeed is not a name often associated with comedy, which would seem to make him a strange fit for a film adaptation of a wildly comedic show, but Snyder insists if he ever did make a funny turn as a filmmaker, teaming up with Harmon and company for a big-screen take on Adult Swim’s biggest hit would be the way to go. As the Batman v Superman director told Film Junkee Vodka Screen back in 2021:

“I don’t have like a straight comedy that I can think, you know, that’s like wall to wall straight comedy. If I did the Rick and Morty Movie that’s probably about the closest I’d get.”

Though Snyder and Harmon’s talk about a Rick & Morty movie evidently never got past the preliminary phases, it sounds as though Harmon at least would still be interested in making their dream film project happen. How exactly such a movie might blend the very different styles brought to the table by its two main creative forces is hard to imagine, but perhaps Synder would only take on a behind-the-scenes role, marshaling his influence in order to get the film off the ground, and leaving the actual funny business up to Harmon and his crack team of writers.
