DC Fans React To “Cursed” Supergirl Figure That Doesn’t Look Like Sasha Calle – Armessa Movie News

[ad_1]

Sideshow Collectibles’ Supergirl Hot Toys figure leads fans to draw comparisons between The Flash‘s Sasha Calle and MCU Spider-Man actor Tom Holland. Sideshow Collectibles’ Hot Toys sixth-scale figures are a staple of the collectible scene due to their highly realistic designs and extremely faithful accuracy. From every DCEU Batman variant to more obscure characters like Stan Lee’s Thor: Ragnarok cameo character, new arrivals are expected every time a superhero movie or show releases.

However, some Hot Toys figures happen to be more accurate than others. Fans on Twitter claim that the Supergirl Hot Toys figure’s head sculpt bears an accidental resemblance not to Supergirl actor Sasha Calle, but to Spider-Man actor Tom Holland, and even to House of the Dragon and Doctor Who actor Matt Smith as well. See the reactions below:

The main problem with the Hot Toys Supergirl figure seems to lie in the area around the eyes. The figure’s eyebrows are thinner and more straight than Sasha Calle’s, the eyes are smaller and more deep-set, and the distance between the eyes and the eyebrows is shorter. It seems the figure’s nose and mouth are also less defined than the actor’s, and the cheeks, chin, and skin seem to be less soft. These differences may be small, but millimetric accuracy is essential when it comes to faces, especially in the case of familiar ones.

Sasha Calle’s Supergirl Hot Toys Figure Continues The Flash’s “Curse”

Sasha Calle’s inaccurate Hot Toys figure joins a long list of obstacles that The Flash has met since its inception. The project went through various different writers and directors since the 1980s and kept getting reworked and delayed even after the DCEU was already established. When production was finally underway, Ezra Miller’s allegations and controversies cast a shadow over the film, and both the COVID-19 pandemic and Warner Bros.’ struggles with the DCEU pulled the project in different directions. Ultimately, The Flash underperformed at the box office and received criticism for its poor CGI. With bad word of mouth and rising anticipation for a franchise-wide reboot, the last thing The Flash needed was an off-base collectible figure.

It is also unfortunate that The Flash‘s latest miss involves a visual aspect of the film. Apart from the controversial CGI, The Flash‘s superhero costumes were also criticized for looking unrealistic. While the Flash, Batman, and Supergirl all had highly-detailed practical suits, the movie’s over-reliance on VFX made the characters’ costumes blend in with the scene. Sadly, a slightly inaccurate Supergirl collectible only supports the idea that The Flash didn’t get the visuals quite right, even though Supergirl’s design didn’t have any major problem on its own.

Nevertheless, the Supergirl Hot Toys collectible isn’t a bad figure by any means. The suit is faithful to The Flash‘s original Supergirl design, the wired cape provides plenty of posing possibilities, and the hair achieves the right balance between realism and practicality, which is a difficult feat to attain with sixth-scale figures. It’s just that with Sideshow Collectibles’ long streak of impressive likenesses, fans are used to perfectly identical head sculpts.
