Warning! Spoilers ahead for Green Lantern: War Journal #2!One of the most powerful Green Lanterns is about to become the DC Universe’s biggest threat. John Stewart has tried to live a peaceful life since leaving the Green Lantern Corps. But a new threat has come for the hero and it’s about to turn him into one of the most devastating villains around.

Green Lantern John Stewart might have ascended to a new level of power, but due to the tumultuous changes in the Green Lantern Corps, Stewart has retired and gone home to help his aging mother. However, Stewart’s unmatched power has put him at odds with Varron, a member of the restructured Corps.

Meanwhile, a sinister threat has come to the DC Universe from an alternate world. The Radiant Dead, a cosmic horror that assimilates everything in its path has come to the Prime Earth to destroy John Stewart, the Lantern fabled to extinguish the undead army. But the longer they stay in the DC Universe, the more the Radiant Dead add to their insidious ranks.

Green Lantern Has Just Become a Member of the Radiant Dead

John Stewart Corrupted by Radiant Dead DC

In Green Lantern: War Journal #2 by Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Montos, Varron finds a downed spaceship containing an astronaut who has been converted by the Radiant Dead. She attacks Varron and his fellow Lanterns, adding them to the Dead’s legion. Meanwhile, John Stewart heads to Metropolis to talk with John Henry Irons aka Steel about working for Irons’ company, Steelworks. Unfortunately, Stewart’s visit is interrupted by the now-converted Varron. While Stewart manages to keep Varron and the other Radiant Dead members on their toes, Varron stabs John in the arm. John looks at his injury as Varron gloats that Stewart is now one of the Radiant Dead.

The Radiant Dead have only been seen briefly, but they have been shown to be quite powerful. Like Green Lanterns they can make constructs (they can even create them by vomiting), but they’re also nigh immortal. They can also turn average people into ravenous monsters able to take down powerful Lanterns. But John is no average man. He recently absorbed a powerful energy source known as the Godstorm, making him more powerful than ever. If he falls to the corruption of the Radiant Dead, then there’s no telling how much damage he could do in the name of the undead army.

Green Lantern’s Corruption and Powers Could Make Him a God-Level Villain

John Stewart and Radiant Dead DC

The Radiant Dead spread via infection every time they draw blood. So far they’ve only been able to attack person by person. But John Stewart’s recent upgrade makes him powerful enough to be in multiple places. If the corruption claims the Green Lantern, he’ll be able to infect the universe at a rate that even Superman wouldn’t be able to stop. John is a smart guy and hopefully, he can figure a way out of the danger he’s now in. Otherwise, the DC Universe is about to fall to the now-corrupted John and his deadly infection powers. Green Lantern: War Journal #2 is on sale now.
