It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 16, episode 4, “Frank vs. Russia” sees Frank Reynolds enter a chess tournament, with him and Charlie rising to the very top of the ranks in Philadelphia. The episode’s B-story follows Dennis as he attempts to get Dee and Mac off of his back, with him trying to help score them dates throughout the episode. Dennis introduces a purportedly foolproof method to Mac and Dee, with it being a brilliant callback to the DENNIS System.
Dennis Introduces A Second System Of Seduction After 14 Years In It’s Always Sunny Season 16
The DENNIS System is the famous system of seduction introduced in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 5, episode 10. According to Dennis, it is a foolproof method of getting women, with him frequently employing it when trying to score dates. The six steps are: demonstrate value, engage physically, nurture dependence, neglect emotionally, inspire hope, and separate entirely. However, this method only works on women according to Dennis. Because of this, Dennis has to introduce a new method to help Dee and Mac get men: the SINNED System.
The SINNED System does borrow some elements from the DENNIS System, with “SINNED” even being the word “DENNIS” spelled backward. However, it also changes some things up, with Dennis altering the steps in order to appeal to men. The SINNED System consists of the following six steps: suppress your instincts, inflate his ego, need his power, negate his power, engage physically, and “Do you want a tissue?” This method may not be as straightforward as the DENNIS System, but it seems to work, making the SINNED System a great follow-up to one of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia‘s most iconic gags.
The SINNED System Isn’t Nearly As Bad As The DENNIS System
Although the SINNED System and the DENNIS System are both bad, the DENNIS System is much worse than its successor. Both systems rely on generalizations and manipulation, with the person employing either system carefully putting thoughts into the head of the victim in order to reach a goal. The DENNIS System, however, is all about secluding a woman and making her totally dependent on the user. The DENNIS System requires negging, neglect, and negatively reinforcing beliefs about the victim’s own self, making it a horrible practice that nobody should ever use in real life.
The SINNED System, while still not good, is an improvement over the DENNIS System. This is because, rather than putting the men down, the SINNED System is all about inflating their ego. In fact, the user of the SINNED System is actually the one that is getting demeaned. While the SINNED System does still rely on some weird Freudian ideas, it isn’t nearly as bad as the DENNIS System, showing that the characters in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia may have improved a little.
