Fantastic Beasts 4 Gets A Discouraging Update, But Newt Could Yet Return Says Director – Armessa Movie News

[ad_1]

Summary

  • Fantastic Beasts 4 is currently on hold with no development happening, according to director David Yates.
  • Yates has mentioned exploring other non-wizard projects, suggesting his involvement in Fantastic Beasts 4 is uncertain.
  • The declining success of the spinoff franchise and lower Rotten Tomatoes scores also cast doubts on the future of Fantastic Beasts 4.

Fantastic Beasts 4 gets a discouraging update from the franchise director. Helmed by David Yates, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a film trilogy consisting of the first film of the same name, as well as two sequels: Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. The Fantastic Beasts series has been thought to have a Fantastic Beasts 4 and Fantastic Beasts 5 coming after The Secrets of Dumbledore.

Yates provides a disappointing update regarding Fantastic Beasts 4. Speaking with the Inside Total Film podcast, Yates said that development is “all just parked” on a new Fantastic Beasts movie. Yates did say, however, that he believes “Newt may well be back.” Check out the full quote (via Winter Is Coming) from Yates below:

With Beasts for a minute, it’s all just parked. We got to the end of [the third film, 2020’s Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore] and we’re all so proud of that movie, and when it went out into the world, we just needed to sort of stop and pause, and take it easy.

I’m sure at some point, Newt may well be back. Who can tell? We haven’t had any in-depth conversations.

What Does This Mean for Fantastic Beasts 4?

This is not the first time that Yates has cast doubt as to the prospects of Fantastic Beasts 4. Earlier this year, Yates mentioned that he was “exploring” other projects that are “non-wizard associated.” These projects include this year’s Pain Hustlers, which is a crime drama far afield from the Wizarding World. While a Fantastic Beasts 4 could in theory continue on in the absence of Yates, the director’s close ties with the project make it such that without Yates, the prospects of another Fantastic Beasts film look slimmer.

Another strike against Fantastic Beasts 4 is the dwindling success of the spinoff franchise. The Rotten Tomatoes scores went down significantly from the first installment, beginning with a Certified Fresh 74% for 2016’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and devolving into a 36% and 46% for Crimes of Grindelwald and The Secrets of Dumbledore, respectively. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore also faltered at the box office, making only $407 million worldwide against its whopping $200 million budget.

Between Yates’s discouraging updates and the track record of the series, the likelihood of Fantastic Beasts 4 is not looking great. While Yates has not closed off the possibility of the series entirely, mentioning Newt’s potential return, any Fantastic Beasts content is certainly not coming any time soon. In the meantime, those looking to re-explore the world of Harry Potter will be able to enjoy HBO’s Harry Potter TV series that is currently in development.
