The Ferrari from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off has sold at auction for a large sum. Released in 1986, the classic coming-of-age comedy stars Matthew Broderick as the titular Ferris Bueller who, on a day off from school, embarks on an impromptu adventure across Chicago with his girlfriend Sloane (Mia Sara) and best friend Cameron (Alan Ruck). For their method of transportation for the day, the three borrow Cameron’s father’s Ferrari, eventually taking the car to a parking garage. How Ferris Bueller’s Day Off Ferrari Will Return

Ferris Buellers Day Off Ferrari

The price of the Ferris Bueller’s Day Off Ferrari is surprisingly high given there is one major catch – it can’t actually drive. The fake Ferrari replica was actually one of three constructed for the 1986 film and appears during the scene in which the car crashes through the garage’s glass window and ends up in Cameron’s backyard. The Ferrari that was used for the actual driving scenes in the film, known as a “hero car,” was sold at auction in 2020 for $396,000.

Even though some of the replicas from the film have been auctioned off, the famous Ferrari will be returning in a spinoff. Earlier this year, Paramount announced that a Ferris Bueller’s Day Off spin-off movie was in the works. It will follow the two previously unnamed parking attendants from the original movie (played by Richard Edson and the late Larry “Flash” Jenkins) who take the Ferrari out for a joyride. Titled Sam and Victor’s Day Off, the spinoff is being developed by Cobra Kai creators Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald.

Though none of the original cast will be returning for the spinoff movie, fans will still get the see the famous Ferrari back in action. Evidenced by the high demand for the original movie’s replicas, the Ferrari from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off still stands as one most iconic movie cars, along with James Bond’s Aston Martin and Back to the Future‘s DeLorean. How the upcoming Ferris Bueller spinoff movie honors its incredible legacy remains to be seen.
