Gale Weathers’ tense showdown with the new Ghostface in Scream 6’s latest trailer has fans very worried about the reporter’s chances of survival.
Following the release of Scream 6‘s first full trailer, fans of the horror franchise are very scared for Courteney Cox’s Gale Weathers during her fight with Ghostface. Cox first starred as the Woodsboro-born reporter-turned-writer in Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson’s 1996 slasher film. The ambitious reporter earned fame for her book on the murder of Maureen Prescott in the original Scream, leading to Prescott’s daughter Sidney (Neve Campbell) despising her, though the two would become friends as they overcame the original Ghostface killers, as well as the copycats they would go on to inspire.
In the wake of the official Scream 6 trailer releasing online, fans have taken to social media to share their thoughts, including their fears surrounding one of the original film’s few surviving characters. In the trailer, Gale is ambushed by the film’s deadly New York-based Ghostface killer in an apartment, forcing Gale to fend off the slasher villain with a handgun. While some fans were eager to celebrate Gale’s return, others expressed their fear for the reporter’s life. Check out a handful of the responses below:
Is Gale REALLY Going To Die In Scream 6?
With 2022’s Scream seeing fellow original film character Dewey Riley (David Arquette) lose his life to that installment’s killer, many longtime fans are fearful that Gale could suffer a similar fate in Scream 6. In the previous film, Gale and Dewey represented the franchise’s history alongside Sidney. Now, with Dewey dead and Sidney not returning, the likely target for a stakes-raising death is Gale. However, with Gale’s encounter with Ghostface featuring so early in Scream 6‘s promotional material, it is unlikely Gale will fall to the new killer, as that would mean the teaser could have potentially spoiled a pivotal moment in the franchise.
No Legacy Character Deaths Means Scream 6 Will Be A Bloodbath
However, even though Gale has a good chance at survival, the sequel’s larger and expanded cast means that Scream 6 could be even more of a bloodbath than what came before. Alongside Cox, Scream 4′s Hayden Panettiere and Scream‘s Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding, eight actors have joined the franchise as new characters. With a larger cast and a Ghostface killer more brutal and more willing to kill bystanders in their quest to stand out from the murderers who inspired them, there are plenty more potential victims who could fall to Scream‘s latest masked killer.
With Campbell declining to return in Scream 6, Cox is the sole original cast member to appear in Scream 6, and the only one to appear in every installment of the franchise to date. Alongside her fight to survive against movie-crazed villains and various copycats, Gale has also undergone a massive amount of growth, becoming an incredibly capable survivor and growing beyond a desire to find the next story that’ll earn her fame, instead using what she learned through her ordeals to help others survive. As such, with the new Scream 6 trailer placing Gale in a terrifying fight for survival against a new, brutal killer, many dedicated fans hope their favorite reporter can cheat death once more.
