Green Lantern Cosplay Proves the Ultraviolet Lantern Needs to Return – Armessa Movie News

The Ultraviolet Lanterns were some of Green Lantern’s most chilling villains, and a new cosplay shows why they need to return!

A new piece of Green Lantern cosplay makes a case for the return of the Ultraviolet Lanterns. These Lanterns, which represent the “Invisible Emotional Spectrum,” were some of the most terrifying Green Lantern villains in years, enslaving whole worlds and converting them to their cause. Now, cosplay photographer Phantasm shared an epic new cosplay, from outlawcosplay, of John Stewart as an Ultraviolet Lantern–proving that these villains need to return.

In the DC Universe, there exists the “Emotional Spectrum,” in which each color is ascribed an emotional drive–such as green for willpower, yellow for fear, and so on. In 2018’s Justice League #2, writer Scott Snyder and artist Jorge Jimenez introduced the “Invisible Emotional Spectrum,” and its agents, the Ultraviolet Lanterns. The Ultraviolet Lanterns are powered by the “Living Phantom Galaxy;” at the center of this galaxy sits Umbrax, the head of the Ultraviolet Lanterns. These Lanterns prey on self-destructive worlds, such as Earth, enslaving them and forcing them to join the Corps. John Stewart was forced into the Ultraviolet Lanterns at one point but was able to fight back. Since Umbrax’s defeat, the Ultraviolet Lanterns have been lying low and biding their time. Now, a new cosplay shows their evil potential and proves they need to return soon.

Cosplay photographer Phantasm unveiled the shoot in an Instagram post. The photo, of cosplayer outlawcosplay, shows John Stewart, against an outer space backdrop, still under the influence of Umbrax and the Ultraviolet Lanterns. John’s Ultraviolet ring is primed and ready for combat. Phantasm prefaced the photo with the chiling oath of the Ultraviolet Lanterns, one that promises to make slaves out of “your darkest self.” The cosplay has received a warm response from fans, garnering over 50 likes as well as enthusiastic comments.

The Ultraviolet Lanterns are the Perfect Green Lantern Villains

The introduction of the Emotional Spectrum in the 2000s permanently redefined the Green Lantern mythos by expanding the number of Lantern Corps, and the Ultraviolet Lanterns take this a step further by introducing the Emotional Spectrum’s dark opposite. By existing outside the Emotional Spectrum, the Ultraviolet Lanterns were able to tear through the Green Lantern’s traditional defenses, making them some of the most powerful, and downright terrifying, villains the Corps has ever faced. This new cosplay photoshoot captures the Ultraviolet Lanterns in all their horrifying glory; in this photo, John Stewart is no more, and has surrendered himself to the Ultraviolet light, ready to do its bidding. This cosplay shows just how chilling the Ultraviolet Lanterns can be–able to break even the strongest willed of the Green Lanterns and make him its own.

The monthly Green Lantern book is on hiatus, but will no doubt return soon, and when it does, the Ultraviolet Lanterns would make the ideal villains. They are the opposite of not only the Green Lantern Corps, but the entire Emotional Spectrum as well; indeed, a story pitting the other Lantern Corps against the Ultraviolet Lanterns has all the makings of a modern epic. Phantasm’s latest cosplay photo proves these Green Lantern villains need to make a comeback.
