Hey, Listen! ‘The Legend of Zelda’ Movie Reportedly in The Works- Armessa Movie News

Fans of The Legend of Zelda franchise may have reason to rejoice if a new report about a cinematic adaptation from Nintendo and Universal is to be believed. 

Earlier this year, Universal’s animation studio Illumination delivered The Super Mario Bros Movie to the world. The film has already made over a billion dollars at the worldwide box office, so it only makes sense that the creators would want to further cash in on the video game movie renaissance with its second-most flagship franchise. 

The report about the Zelda movie comes from Jeff Sneider’s podcast The Hot Mic. Sneider was first made aware of the deal between Nintendo and Illumination that soon may come to fruition:

“I’m told that Universal is, in fact, closing a ‘big deal’ with the Nintendo corporation for The Legend of Zelda […] Zelda is looking like the next big Illumination-Nintendo franchise, which we were all sort of expecting. I’m told that is happening.”

Sneider went on to say that such an adaptation will cost Universal a lot of money — a “pretty penny” — to create.

With the recent massive success of the The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, it seems like an absolute no-brainer to make this the next franchise to get the Illumination treatment. 

I have been enjoying the heck out of Tears of the Kingdom on my off-time. Growing up, I never could beat the Zelda games from the ‘90s, as they were always too hard for me, but I easily recognized Link as one of gaming’s most iconic characters, even back then. Suffice it to say, I’m very excited to see a Zelda movie come to life, should it pan out.
