Hocus Pocus 3 screenwriter teases story details about the Sanderson Sisters’ next adventure in the upcoming sequel. Nearly three decades after Hocus Pocus was released in 1993, the Sanderson Sisters finally returned to Salem in the sequel that dropped on Disney+ last year. Since then, Hocus Pocus 3 has been confirmed to be on the way, but details have been relatively sparse, including its casting.

Now, writer Jen D’Angelo teases the Sanderson Sisters’ revenge plot in Hocus Pocus 3. Speaking with Collider, D’Angelo alluded to a plot based on Winifred’s “revenge against Salem.” Despite Winifred learning her lesson in the Hocus Pocus 2 ending when she realized her sisters were most important to her, the writer hinted that the witcher may focus on the “wrong goal” again. “Yes, I have my theories about what we could see, and what things mean and where we could take these characters. It’s interesting to be like, ‘Now we have even more possibility’ and it’ll be a challenge to sort of pick the avenue and really make the movie stand on its own.”

“With the Sanderson sisters, the thing that makes them so fun is that they really are like herding cats. So I’m like ‘Yes, Winifred learned a very valuable lesson, she loves her sisters more than anything in the world,’ but she will also just immediately get distracted by whatever’s put in front of her. So if you dangle the carrot of a potential revenge against Salem, which she has always wanted, she might have a backslide where she gets singularly focused on the wrong goal again.”

How Could Hocus Pocus 3 Restart A New Revenge Story After The Hocus Pocus 2 Ending?

While D’Angelo alludes to Winifred’s character arc in the Hocus Pocus threequel, she does not provide the specific details of how her ventures may transpire. Hocus Pocus 2 focuses on the story of two young women who inadvertently bring the Sanderson Sisters back to the famous city of Salem, Massachusetts, and must stop them from hunting down children and destroying the city and world. During this time, Winifred learned more about the bond between her sisters while still ultimately working against Salem.

Several original Hocus Pocus main characters were notably absent in the Disney sequel. The absent Hocus Pocus 2 characters include once-children Max, Dani, and Allison. As a result, Hocus Pocus 2 functionally reinvented itself in which the original trio of witches returned but placed them within a new set of main characters. Despite a new story, the sequel also had some vengeful elements, with the sister still targeting Salem. However, the movie ended with the new characters casting a reuniting spell that allowed Winifred to be with her sisters, who had faded away. Given the sequel’s emotional ending, it’s unclear what could trigger the Sanderson sisters, particularly Winifred, to restart their revenge quest against Salem or how the sisters could return following those events.
