Spider-Bots make a return to the series in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 as collectibles you can grab all across the map. In previous tiles, Spider-Bots were used for specific stealth missions, allowing you to listen into conversations and disarm bombs from afar. In Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, they have less importance in missions but instead have their mini-side quest, which ends when you have collected all of them throughout the city. Each one has its unique design, which is sure to make them a favorite for long-time Spidey fans, so if there is one, in particular, you are after, you can search the specific district it is in.
You can carry on playing after beating Marvel’s Spider-Man 2‘s main story, which is relatively short, and there are a large number of collectibles to find across the various Boroughs of New York City to keep players swinging for a long time. These range from the Prowler’s Stashes, Photograph opportunities, Marko’s Memories, as well as the illusive Spider-Bots. While you will not receive many bonuses for finding all of the Spider-Bots, they are part of the requirement for anyone looking to 100% game.
How To Locate Spider-Bots
Spider-Bots are the hardest collectible in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, as they are the only ones that aren’t shown on the main map, meaning they will take players a lot more time to find each one. There are 42 different Spider-Bots spread across the 14 different districts that can be explored in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2‘s large map, which is twice the size of the original game.
You will be able to find Spider-Bots after completing the main mission, ‘Science Buddy.’ As part of this mission, Genke will tell you about Spider-Bots starting the side quest ‘Spider-Spy.’ Once you have finished this mission, which takes place in the first chapter of the game, they will begin to appear. Spider-Bots can be found while exploring the city as either Peter or Miles, who you can switch between seamlessly in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
As Spider-Botes are not marked on the map, you can only find them by either hearing their beeping sound or seeing the rainbow bubbles surrounding them, both of which pulse for a few seconds. You will only see or hear them when you are within 270 meters of a Spider-Bot on the map, making it very difficult to find them as you play through Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Once you have discovered one of the Spider-Bots, all you need to do is go up to it, press the Triangle button, and it will be added to your collection.
While Spider-Bots are not marked on your map, each of the district’s completion lists shows how many Spider-Bots you have found in each area.
Using The All-Seeing Upgrade
While Spider-Bots will never be shown on the bigger world map, there is a trick to get them to appear on your mini-map. This proves very useful if one is nearby, allowing you to quickly find their exact location. Alongside the best gadget upgrades available to Peter and Miles in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, there are suit tech upgrades. In the tech upgrades section under Traversal, there is an All-Seeing Upgrade.
The All-Seeing upgrade description says it reveals Tech Crates on your mini-map, but it will also show Spider-Bots once equipped. This upgrade costs a large number of Tech Parts and Hero Tokens to unlock, but it is worth doing for the assistance it provides with the Spider-Bots. If you leave unlocking the upgrade until after completing the main game, you should easily have enough points and tokens to purchase it.
Tips For Finding Spider-Bots
While each of the Spider-Bots has a set location, they can be hard to locate. All of the Spider-Bots are high up, often on the side of buildings or rooftops, meaning you will need to scale many walls to locate them. Many of the Spider-Bots are hidden near famous locations around New York City, so these can be good places to look first.
The purple pulses around Spider-Bots will continue to flash when nearby, with a sound also coming out of your controller, using one of the many DualShock features available in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. One issue with the many tall buildings is that the sound and pulses will not occur when on the ground nearby for some of the Spider-Bots if you are still too far away, which is where the All-Seeing Upgrade comes in handy.
Once you have collected all 42 Spider-Bots, Ganke will call and start a quest called ‘The Message.’ You just need to go to the location marked on the map, which will trigger a cutscene, and you will be done. The cutscene reveals an exciting surprise for fans of the series, and you will also receive 1,000 XP.
Spider-Bots are the hardest collectible to find in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 due to not appearing on the world map, but with patience and by following the tips, you can cross all 42 off your list.
