Instagram now lets creators and business schedule a post or Reel up to 75 days in advance, right from the app. Here’s how to use the feature.


Instagram offers a feature that lets users schedule posts, which might not seem significant to the average user, but is incredibly useful for content creators and social media managers. With its recent feature drop, Instagram is also letting users fine-tune their Explore page by providing instant feedback on the quality of posts. Additionally, a new Quiet Mode feature hides Instagram notifications for a limited time, allowing users to focus on more important tasks.

Although there are several third-party platforms that let users schedule their uploads, Instagram‘s scheduled content feature allows creators and businesses schedule photos, carousel posts, and Reels directly from the Instagram app or website. To schedule a post or Reel from the app, tap on the plus icon and capture or upload a photo or video. Make any required edits and tap on ‘Next.’ Add a caption to the post or Reel, and tap on the ‘Advanced settings‘ option at the bottom of the page. In the following menu, select ‘Schedule this post.’ Pick a date and time on the screen and tap ‘Set time‘ at the bottom. Finally, tap on ‘Schedule‘ in the top right corner.

Only Professional Accounts Can Schedule Posts

Like most features on the app, scheduling content on Instagram is free of cost. However, not all users can access the feature, because it is only available to users who have a professional account. This makes sense, given that the average user might not have much use for this feature. If users don’t see the option to schedule posts on their account, they’ll need to convert their account to a professional one. It’s also important to note that product tagging, collaboration, and crossposting to Facebook are incompatible with scheduled posts.

The feature allows users to schedule up to 25 posts in a day, up to 75 days in advance. In other words, creators can plan their feed for the next two and a half months. Although the app doesn’t display the scheduled posts on a user’s profile grid, it has a dedicated scheduled content menu that lists the upcoming posts in chronological order. To open the menu, tap on the profile picture in the bottom-right corner, hit the hamburger menu in the top-right, and select ‘Scheduled Content.’

This menu also allows creators to reschedule posts by tapping on the three dots next to the post details and selecting ‘Reschedule.’ Then there’s ‘Edit post,’ which allows users to change the tagged accounts in a post, and modify the caption and ALT data before it goes live. To delete a scheduled post, select ‘Delete‘ instead of ‘Reschedule.’ The scheduled content feature on Instagram is a useful way for creators to plan their content roadmap right from the app.
