‘I’m Not Picking On Anybody’ Says Quentin Tarantino, Before Picking On Ryan Reynolds- Armessa Movie News

He may have allowed The Hateful Eight to be re-edited into a miniseries for distribution on Netflix, but Quentin Tarantino is no fan of original motion pictures being made for and show only on streaming.

That’s hardly a groundbreaking revelation when the Academy Award-winning filmmaker is a staunch cinephile and one of the few remaining talents in Hollywood who still shoots on celluloid, but his umbrage with the market-leading streaming service has now drawn Ryan Reynolds into its orbit.

Speaking to Deadline, Tarantino did at least note that he wasn’t trying to single anyone out in particular… before immediately singling out Reynolds for accepting eye-watering sums of cash to appear in a string of Netflix-only blockbusters.

“I’m not picking on anybody, but apparently for Netflix, Ryan Reynolds has made $50 million on this movie… I don’t know what any of those movies are… It’s almost like they don’t even exist.”

In the Deadpool star’s defense, his contributions to the Netflix discourse have proven to be pretty successful. Both Red Notice and The Adam Project rank as a pair of the platform’s most-watched in-house exclusives of all-time, while Michael Bay’s 6 Underground did draw in a decent number of eyeballs before being deemed unworthy of a sequel.

That being said, you can’t really argue much with Tarantino’s point, because it can’t be denied that Netflix’s big budget blockbusters often land with a bang before quietly slinking away and never being seen or heard from again, and Reynolds has lent his name to at least one such title.
