Netflix Doesn’t Play Favorites After Axing the Spin-off to One of Its Movies- Armessa Movie News

The cancellation pile at Netflix got even bigger yesterday, and it was entirely expected that a fantasy series would be among them. However, Welcome to Eden wasn’t the only episodic original to bite the dust, with the streamer proving it doesn’t play favorites by booting Sky High: The Series to the curb.

Released theatrically in its native country before making its way to Netflix for exclusive distribution, the slick and polished crime thriller performed admirably on the most-watched charts, which emboldened the company to announce in October of 2021 that a short-form sequel was in the works.

Evidently, though, there clearly weren’t enough subscribers either interested or invested in the ongoing adventures of a recently-widowed young single mother partnering up with her late husband’s criminal partners to indulge in some smash-and-grab heist action, all while trying to distance herself from a father who gained notoriety and infamy in the arena of trafficking stolen goods.

After a solitary one-season run, then, Sky High: The Series is toast. It may not be missed on the same level of other recently-abandoned favorites, but with foreign-language thrillers regularly proving to be among Netflix’s most popular offerings, it’s nonetheless curious that the follow-up to a popular feature didn’t end up catching on with crowds in the way anyone expected.

Of course, the top brass ruthlessly casting content into the ether has become a near-daily occurrence on streaming in the last few months, to the extent there’s now genuine surprise when anything with a decent-sized audience actually survives the cull to score a renewal.
