The most recent Lupin season 4 news arrived on October 13, 2023. Speaking to Variety creator George Kay revealed his hopes for a fourth season, and shared what he felt the chances were of a Lupin season 4 renewal. While Kay professed he couldn’t answer for co-producer and Netflix CP of French Content series Damien Couvreur, he did explain that the most recent chapter of Assane’s story definitely didn’t have to be the end.
“When you create the dynamics amongst the characters, you set these shows up so that they can have a long life so that you’re not cornered, or you don’t have a problem continuing them,” explained George Kay, “because it’s harder to generate length out of a show that’s not designed to run and run. So we had very ambitious foundations for it. So it’s definitely got the scale, if it’s required.”
Judging from George Kay’s comments the only thing preventing Lupin season 4 from moving ahead yet is that it hasn’t got the greenlight from Netflix or French studio Gaumont Television. It appears that, once it does, at least one of the shows creators can see how to continue the story in Lupin season 4.
Lupin Hasn’t Been Renewed For Season 4 (Yet)
Lupin season 4 isn’t confirmed. However, part 3 wasn’t renewed until after part 2 had debuted. It’s possible that a Lupin season 4 renewal will be announced soon, especially if part 3 continues to perform well on Netflix.
Lupin Season 4 Release Date Prediction
With the show still yet to be renewed as of September 2023 it’s unrealistic to expect a Lupin season 4 release date before late 2024, and even this is optimistic. Until the show is greenlit for another chapter it’s difficult to predict when the next season of Lupin will premiere, as previous seasons haven’t released at regular intervals.
After first two chapters of Assanes story arrived in 2021 there was a two year gap between parts 2 and 3, though part 3 was filmed much earlier than it eventually made it to Netflix. Even if production on Lupin season 4 begins soon it could be several years until it eventually arrives.

The Lupin season 4 cast hasn’t been announced, though with the show yet to be renewed this is unsurprising. However, every season of the French Netflix crime drama so far has contained more-or-less the same cast save for character exits, so it’s likely the fourth season wouldn’t see any recasts or unexpected changes. The cast of Lupin season 4 is expected to include:

There’s also of course the wide ensemble cast of supporting characters in Lupin, many of whom will also likely appear in season 4, and possibly even be elevated to series regulars. No new cast members have been announced for Lupin season 4 yet, and won’t unless the show is renewed. Since Assane ended the third season in prison it’s almost guaranteed that some new cast members will be playing his, and Hubert Pellegrini’s, fellow inmates.
Lupin Season 4 Story
While there’s been no specific announcements on what the plot of Lupin season 4 will be, it was teased by the ending of Lupin season 3. At the end of the third season Assane turns himself into the police and is incarcerated for his crimes – a fate he willingly chooses in order to protect his family. However, it was revealed that this puts him face to face with none other than Hubert Pellegrini, the nefarious business tycoon responsible for the death of Assane’s father Babakar Diop.
After Pellegrini was himself sent to prison in the second season of the show he’s been making planes of his own, as was made apparent in the finale of the most recent season. This will undoubtedly play a part in the Lupin season 4 story, as both he and Assane are now behind bars together. The situation is further antagonized by the fact that Pellegrini may have also been partially responsible for Assane’s final heist going so wrong that he’s forced to hand himself in to keep his family safe.
More details on the Lupin season 4 plot will become clear if the show is confirmed and gets the green light from Netflix and Gaumont television. There were huge reveals in the third season, such as that Mariama may be Assane’s real mother. These twists always brought fresh cliffhangers, however, and the story feels far from concluded. Lupin season 4’s narrative has a lot of questions to answer, making the potential release date one of the most anticipated in the show’s history so far.
