Rey’s New Star Wars Movie Is Inspired By A Luke Skywalker Moment… That Never Happened – Armessa Movie News

Rey’s Star Wars movie will be centered around an important Luke Skywalker moment, one that never even happened in the sequel trilogy. According to Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, this moment is the “core” of the New Jedi Order movie that will shape the next chapter of Rey’s story. However, this moment between Rey and Luke never appeared on-screen, or in any other Star Wars media. This is an odd move on Lucasfilm’s part, but one that has the potential to pay off if handled correctly.

The unseen Luke Skywalker moment could reveal more about what happened during the sequel trilogy and how it affects the New Jedi Order. This would expand the possibilities for Rey’s story as she struggles to pick up where Luke left off in rebuilding the Jedi in the aftermath of another galactic war. Rey’s Star Wars movie may achieve these goals, but for the time being her story is inspired by a Luke Skywalker moment that seemingly did not happen.

Rey Never Made A Promise To Luke Skywalker In The Sequel Trilogy

Rey’s New Jedi Order movie will build on a promise that Rey made to Luke, but she never made any promises in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Rey and Luke were still at odds on bringing back the order when they parted ways in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and while Luke had changed his mind in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Rey never mentioned anything about bringing back the Jedi. It seems strange that Rey’s next Star Wars movie is centered around a promise that never happened onscreen, but there is a way to make this idea work.

Will Star Wars Retcon A Promise Into Rise Of Skywalker?

Rey’s promise to Luke may be an entirely new element that the New Jedi Order movie will retcon into The Rise of Skywalker. Kennedy did say that “now, Rey has made a promise to Luke,” which could imply that she swore to rebuild the Jedi after Palpatine was defeated. After all, Luke didn’t promise that he would rebuild the Jedi Order in Return of the Jedi, but he still did as Yoda asked and passed on what he had learned. It’s also possible that Rey made this promise to Luke just before she left Ahch-To, just as he once promised Yoda that he would return as he left Dagobah.

However, a flashback is unlikely, as Mark Hamill doesn’t expect to return in New Jedi Order. Perhaps Rey will simply tell one of her students that she made Luke a promise, or she could attempt to reach Luke’s spirit and affirm the promise she made to him. Whatever form the promise takes or when Rey made it, the New Jedi Order movie must provide an answer. Until then, Rey’s Star Wars movie is inspired by a Luke Skywalker moment that never happened, but it will be interesting to see how New Jedi Order explores Rey’s new promise.
