SAVI THE CAT was directed, written and produced by Bryan Tucker and Netsanet Tjirongo. This heart-warming short film shares the story of the highs and lows of a first-time cat owner. It was selected from over 8000 entries at the OSCAR-qualifying Tribeca Film Festival in New York.

When a devoted Kenyan husband surprises his new Black-American wife with an adorable kitten, neither are prepared for the destruction it wields upon their home, their life, and ultimately, their marriage.

Netsanet Tjirongo is an Emmy-nominated Ethiopian-Namibian filmmaker, educator, and community organizer. Primarily drawn to documentary and narrative filmmaking, her work focuses on the intersection of gender, race, sexuality, and immigration status. Netsanet is passionate about representation and empowering the next generation of storytellers and currently serves as the Director of Education at the Northwest Film Forum.

Bryan Tucker is a three-time regional Emmy award winning documentary filmmaker. Bryan has worked on a wide range of documentary, non-profit and commercial projects throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond, including for VICE, PBS, Seattle Seahawks, Yoga Behind Bars, and The Guardian, to name a few. His most recent short documentary, Flat Town, was broadcast nationally on PBS “Reel South.”

SAVI THE CAT can be seen at Tribeca on Sunday June 11th, Thursday June 15th and Saturday June 17th.
