The adventures of SpongeBob SquarePants continue not only on TV but also on the big screen, with Nickelodeon Animation and Paramount setting the release date of the new SpongeBob movie in late spring 2025. The New SpongeBob Movie Most Recent News
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run was released in March 2021 and was well-received by critics, so it wasn’t surprising that talks about a fourth movie began shortly after. A fourth SpongeBob SquarePants movie is confirmed to be in development. Moreover, unlike Sponge on the Run, which was released on video on demand and Paramount+ due to the coronavirus pandemic, the plan for the new SpongeBob movie is to release it in theaters in 2025. However, there hasn’t been much in the way of news for the next SpongeBob SquarePants movie since, with most work presumably being on the Sandy Cheeks spinoff arriving in 2023.
SpongeBob SquarePants 4 Release Date
The release date for the new SpongeBob movie is May 23, 2025. In addition, while SpongeBob SquarePants 4 opens Paramount’s summer 2025 releases, the studio has also announced that Aang Avatar is slated for theatrical release on October 10, 2025 — meaning it will be a big year for Paramount’s Nickelodeon properties across the board. These Nickelodeon features are a result of Paramount’s recent rebranding plan, which also includes the ongoing SpongeBob spinoff series Kamp Koral and The Patrick Star Show, as well as three other SpongeBob spinoff movies.
SpongeBob SquarePants 4’s Story: What Will The Sequel Be About?
The SpongeBob SquarePants movies don’t follow a narrative, so instead of being sequels, they are standalone stories. As such, each movie has had a different story, though all of them with the message of “power and bravery comes from within” (after all, these are movies aimed at a young audience). With that in mind, it’s impossible to predict what the story of the new SpongeBob movie will be, as it could deal with literally anything — the Krabby Patty secret formula, Plankton’s evil plans, a character being kidnapped or turning evil, etc.
The Sandy Cheeks Movie Is Arriving In 2023
Apart from the new SpongeBob movie, the spinoff Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie is coming to Netflix in 2023. However, the streaming service is yet to announce an exact release date for the Liza Johnson-directed movie. Carolyn Lawrence who voices the titular squirrel leads the Sandy Cheeks Movie cast, which includes Wanda Sykes, Johnny Knoxville, Craig Robinson, Clancy Brown, Tom Kenny, Bill Fagerbakke, Jill Talley, Mary Jo Catlett, Loretta Devine, Grey Griffin, Rodger Bumpass, and Doug Lawrence.
In the Sandy Cheeks spinoff movie, the entire town of Bikini Bottom gets scooped up by a sinister corporation, and Sandy and SpongeBob go off on an epic quest to make things right. Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie will be a tribute to classic Westerns, as SpongeBob and Sandy’s quest begins with enlisting the help of Sandy’s family by heading to her home state of Texas. While the new SpongeBob movie releases in theaters on May 23, 2025 and Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie will stream on Netflix this year, there’s no word yet on when or how Nickelodeon will release the two other SpongeBob SquarePants spinoff movies.
