The Bachelor’s Jesse Palmer is doing a great job as the host of all three franchise shows. However, a woman’s perspective is needed for balance.
Jesse Palmer has done a fantastic job since he became the host of The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, and Bachelor in Paradise, but a woman co-host would make the show more balanced, by bringing a female perspective. After Chris Harrison left the franchise, Bachelor Nation favorites Tayshia Adams and Kaitlyn Bristowe took over as the hosts of The Bachelorette seasons 17 and 18. Bachelor in Paradise season 7 was hosted by a rotating series of celebrities, all of them male, including David Spade, Lil Jon, Tituss Burgess, Lance Bass, and Wells Adams. When the time came to choose a permanent franchise host, The Bachelor season 5 lead Jesse was selected.
Jesse has done a fine job with all three shows, bringing sensitivity or humor to the series, depending on the situation. He helped to guide Clayton Echard through his tumultuous The Bachelor journey, and made sense of the chaotic (and first-ever) dual The Bachelorette season, starring Rachel Recchia and Gabby Windey. Jesse also navigated the whirlwind that was Bachelor in Paradise season 8 very well. However, it is interesting to think about what it would be like if the shows were co-hosted by a woman.
The Bachelor Franchise Needs Balance
Although Jesse does a wonderful job of trying to relate to all the contestants, he will never know what it is like to be a woman. Likewise, Tayshia and Kaitlyn can’t draw on male perspectives. Adding a woman as the host would make sense, because, on The Bachelor, Jesse could help the male lead through his journey, while the woman could guide the contestants. While it is true that people are people and should be able to relate to anyone, their perspectives are limited to what they have gone through in life. Men and women may experience the world differently, so The Bachelor franchise needs both for balance.
The Bachelor Franchise Should Reflect Today’s World
The power in television has traditionally been in the hands of men, but that’s been changing. However, choosing a male as the face of The Bachelor franchise (a show that is primarily marketed to women) sends a conflicting message. The Bachelorette had two female hosts, Tayshia and Kaitlyn, versus just one (as with Chris or Jesse). This shows the way that the franchise treats (and portrays) women.
The Bachelor has been criticized for its misogynistic portrayals of women, as females are often shown arguing and creating drama. They rarely show the strong female friendships that develop on the show, instead choosing to focus on the very worst attributes and behavior. This perpetuates the myth that all women are jealous of each other, and only capable of tearing each other down. It is hard to imagine that Kaitlyn or Tayshia would have tolerated the vicious fights that occurred among the women on Clayton’s “After the Final Rose” episode. The right woman Bachelor host could send a message that women should empower each other.
The Bachelor Franchise Women Who Could Take The Role
There are several Bachelor franchise women who would be the ideal hosts alongside Jesse. Women such as Tayshia or Kaitlyn, who have both been Bachelor contestants and Bachelorette leads, would be perfect for the role, as they know what it is like to be on both sides of the experience. JoJo Fletcher, who temporarily stepped in for Chris during Tayshia’s season, is another great choice. As the host of other television shows, she has the experience and disposition to co-host with Jesse. Gabby Windey, who is currently hosting the Dancing With The Stars Live 2023 tour, is a fan favorite who already has a great rapport with Jesse. She would bring humor and experience to the show.
Becca Kufrin would also be perfect for the role because she fits the criteria. She is the host of Bachelor Happy Hour, one of the Bachelor Nation podcasts. On that show, she does a great job of expressing her own opinions without dominating the conversation. She also has a knack for helping her guests to open up to her. Clare Crawley, who has appeared on all the Bachelor franchise shows, as well as Bachelor Winter Games, has the background and personality to call out contestants for their bad behavior. She would also support them through the series’ more challenging moments.
The Bachelor could solve some of its problems by adding a woman co-host to join Jesse. He is doing a terrific job, but the show could use a female perspective. Zach Shallcross’ season features thirty women competing for his heart, and it would have been nice to have a woman there to help guide them. The Bachelor has never had a woman host, but the right one could change the vibe of the show for the better.
