Although The Challenge: UK only had a five-episode run, Nathan was heavily featured throughout the season due to his strong personality and entertaining narration.
Although Nathan didn’t win The Challenge: UK, his second-place finish and overall strong performance earned him a spot as a global MVP on The Challenge: World Championship. Nathan upheld his reputation as a promising competitor on The Challenge from the very first weekly challenge, where he finished third among all the male global MVPs. However, before Nathan could benefit from his strong finish and choose a female partner from the pool of returning legends, it was announced by host TJ Lavin that Nathan was “medically separated” from the game and would no longer be competing.
The Challenge Fans Were Looking Forward To Nathan’s Role This Season
The Challenge fans took to Reddit to express their disappointment over Nathan’s sudden departure, discussing his entertaining game persona and potential to become a series regular. Although the official reason for Nathan’s medical DQ has yet to be confirmed, viewers can agree that it’s ultimately for the best if sick or injured players are sent home, especially considering the safety risks associated with The Challenge. Still, fans took to an episode discussion thread started by Reddit user u/SweetMissMG to discuss Nathan’s early disqualification and speculate on what could’ve been if he was able to ride out the season.
The Challenge Fans Appreciated Nathan’s Humor & Strength
Considering how many strong players are featured on The Challenge: World Championship, many fans were looking forward to stand-out performances from new talent who haven’t gotten a chance to fully shine on their global spin-offs. One fan wrote, “Sad for Nathan to have to go out as I think he could’ve been great on this and he performed well on the 1st daily.” Nathan actually outperformed his fellow UK male competitor, Tristan Phipps, who won The Challenge: UK but placed last in the weekly challenge on The Challenge: World Championship. Nathan being pulled from The Challenge early means there’s no shot at a rematch just yet.
Another user pointed out that Nathan has potential in the series, despite the fact that audiences have only seen him compete in a total of six episodes. The fan said, “Really wish Nathan could have stayed…I could have seen him becoming a regular returning player with his narration and humor similar to Kyle.” Although Nathan didn’t have quite the same explosive rookie season as Kyle, it isn’t a guarantee that he’s gone for good. Nathan’s medical disqualification was beyond his control, and typically players are only barred from returning if they choose to quit or engage in insensitive and offensive behavior like The Challenge‘s Dee Nguyen.
Even fellow competitors from The Challenge: World Championship commented on their disappointment over Nathan’s departure. The Challenge‘s Wes Bergmann took to Twitter to give his thoughts on the first two episodes, adding, “The biggest loss that the fans got robbed of was the medical separation of @NathanHGShore…I hope we get to see him again.” It’s clear that fans and alums alike feel let down by Nathan’s exit, but the health of players on The Challenge comes first. Hopefully, Nathan can get another shot at a full-length season in the future.
