There are so many Korok seeds scattered across the map in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom that it can be hard to know where to look. The adorable little forest spirits can be found in the unlikeliest places: hiding under rocks, lurking beneath bodies of water, or camping out on top of Hyrule’s highest peaks. There are 1000 Koroks to be found, and tracking down all of them can easily take tens of hours. Finding or reuniting Koroks always rewards the player with one or two Korok seeds, items that can be used to purchase additional inventory slots for melee weapons, shields, and bows.

Tears of the Kingdom‘s map is split into three sections: the sky, the surface, and the Depths. The topography of each of these areas differs greatly; there are items and points of interest exclusive to each that simply can’t be found anywhere else. Players will sometimes find several Koroks while casually scouting one area, but might spend hours wandering another without finding so much as a single seed. Those who are specifically looking to expand their inventory will want to focus on the most Korok-dense areas available. The Depths in particular are large and dark enough that they might begin to question whether there are any Koroks down there at all.

There Are No Koroks In Zelda: TOTK’s Depths

No matter how much players look, there are no Koroks to be found in the Depths. Koroks in TOTK are limited to the sky islands and the surface, and won’t venture into the perilous underground. While they certainly have the means to do so with their leaf-based aerodynamic devices and mild levitation abilities, they seem to avoid the Depths. And it’s hard to blame them. The Depths in Tears of the Kingdom are full of fearsome, blight-inducing monsters that could easily trample a tiny Korok underfoot. Plus, being essentially living plants, Koroks probably wouldn’t get enough sunlight underground. For humans, the Depths are uninviting enough; that can only go double for a creature that relies on photosynthesis.

Where To Find Koroks & Hestu In Zelda: TOTK Outside Of The Depths

Players looking for Korok locations should stick to the sky islands and the surface. It can be helpful to look for suspiciously placed rocks, especially in hard-to-reach locations like on mountain peaks. Rocks or lily pads arranged in a circle are also a dead giveaway. Players will also sometimes happen upon asymmetrical arrangements of small, cubical blocks. With these, there will usually be a piece of the puzzle that can be moved with Ultrahand; making the two shapes match each other will reveal a Korok. Listening for certain sounds, like the grass rustling, pinwheels rattling, or the Koroks themselves mumbling can also lead players to TOTK‘s all-important Korok seeds.

Once they’ve gathered a bunch of Korok seeds, TOTK players will want to track down Hestu’s location. He’ll first be found in a clearing just southeast of the Lindor’s Brow Skyview Tower. There, after defending Hestu from some hostile trees, players can trade in seeds for additional inventory slots. Once they’ve traded in a certain amount, though, Hestu will move on to Lookout Landing. If players miss this, then he’ll appear at Lookout Landing anyway.

Korok seeds are an important resource in TOTK. Inventory slots are limited, and even with Link’s new Fuse ability, weapons, shields, and bows break frequently. Players will need as many inventory slots as possible to take down some of the game’s tougher enemies, so it’s best to start stockpiling those Korok seeds early on. Knowing where and where not to look for Korok seeds can ease players’ journey in the first hours of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
