While fast travel points in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are common, as players can quickly teleport to any Shrine, Lightroot, Skyview Tower, or Temple that they’ve previously accessed, the game’s Travel Medallions allow players to set up to three of their own fast travel points at almost any location. This can be especially helpful when it comes to revisiting difficult-to-reach locations, NPCs that offer valuable services, or even just as way to quickly get back to where player might have been before getting distracted by a Korok. For players looking to save as much time as possible, however, certain locations in Hyrule will prove to be more optimal than others.
Carrying over from Breath of the Wild‘s Master Trials DLC, TOTK‘s Travel Medallions are significantly upgraded, with players being able to have three of them active at once, as opposed to BOTW‘s limit of one. There is, however, a caveat – to access the Travel Medallions, players will have to complete a few quests, including unlocking Autobuild and allowing Robbie to fix the Purah Pad’s camera. After these quests are complete and Robbie has moved to the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab, players can receive the quest to retrieve the Travel Medallion from the Yiga Clan occupying the Akkala Ancient Tech lab. Returning the prototype to Robbie will give players the use of one Travel Medallion, with another use being awarded after players have activated ten Skyview Towers, and the last after the entire map has been uncovered and every tower has been found.
7 Great Fairy Fountains
While most Great Fairy Fountains are relatively close to shrines, placing a Travel Medallion directly at one can help to cut down on travel time – especially given how crucial armor upgrades are to surviving in Tears of the Kingdom. As players accrue more pieces of armor and farm the materials necessary to upgrade them, it’s likely that Great Fairy Fountains will be among the most heavily revisited locations in any given playthrough, compounded further by the incredibly useful bonuses that many sets will gain once every piece has been upgraded at least twice.
6 Sky Islands With Fairies
However, while Great Fairy Fountains are useful for upgrading armor, in TOTK, they are noticeably lacking the smaller fairies that players can capture. As these fairies can automatically restore hearts and prevent Link from dying, or enhance cooking recipes, they’re important to have on hand. Luckily, they can still be gathered in a number of spots, including the circular ponds on some sky islands. As players can typically only gather three fairies at a time, placing a Travel Medallion near a pond where they gather can be useful for whenever they run out, as well as the for the gliders that are often conveniently placed on these sky islands.
5 Malanya Spring
Although horses can be seen as somewhat obsolete in TOTK, being relatively limited in where they can go, they can still be useful for getting around the map quickly – particularly in the early game, before players have the battery and parts to use vehicles efficiently. For players who do make heavy use of horses, placing a Travel Medallion at Malanya Spring can save quite a bit of time, as the spring is in a relatively isolated location in the northern Akkala. While players aren’t likely to upgrade more than a single horse, it’s also likely they’ll need multiple visits to the spring after gathering the necessary materials.
4 Pelison In Tarrey Town
Aside from a few side quests and the option to buy a house, Tarrey Town also offers one of the most useful NPCs in TOTK in the form of Pelison, who can, for a small fee, separate any fused weapons back into their individual parts, allowing players to reclaim both the base weapon and the fused material. As this can be useful for a variety of reasons, such as reusing powerful fusing parts from almost-broken weapons, players are likely to make use of Pelison’s services very often – and, as there are no default fast travel points within Tarry Town itself, Pelison’s shop is a prime spot for Travel Medallions.
3 Rock Octoroks Around Death Mountain
For players looking to fully repair a weapon in Tears of the Kindgom, however, the Rock Octoroks that can be found around the Death Mountain region are the only way to do so – and, as a bonus, they’ll also change the weapon’s modifier. Each Rock Octorok can only repair a weapon once per Blood Moon, but players looking to hold onto specific weapons will likely find themselves revisiting the region often. Although many Rock Octoroks can be found relatively near shrines, some are far enough away that players who need repairs particularly often will be well-served by placing a Travel Medallion near them.
2 The Ancient Tablet Island Above Lookout Landing
Although the Ancient Tablet in Lookout Landing is easily accessible, the sky island that it fell from is not, being the highest location in the game and requiring a flying vehicle to reach. While there aren’t any rewards for reaching the island, players looking for places to explore in Hyrule may want to leave a Travel Medallion there anyway, for the simple fact that, as the highest point in the game and a centralized location, it makes for an ideal vantage point and an easy spot to set out from – and the island itself is troublesome enough to reach manually that players aren’t likely to want to do it again.
1 Sky Islands With King Gleeoks
King Gleeoks are among the rarest enemies in TOTK, being found in only four locations in the entire world – three being in the sky. To make matters worse, the sky islands where King Gleeoks can be found are both high up and relatively far away from any other sky islands, meaning players are all but required to use flying vehicles to reach them for the first time. As a result, any Tears of the Kingdom player looking to farm King Gleeok parts each Blood Moon, or who needs to retreat and prepare for the fight, will want to leave a Travel Medallion on at least one of the sky islands.
