Beetlejuice 2’s release date has been set for 2024, and the Michael Keaton and Jenna Ortega-starrer will open against the MCU’s Blade reboot.

A Beetlejuice 2 release date has officially been set for 2024, and it will open against another tentpole. Earlier this year, a sequel to the beloved 1988 Tim Burton movie finally started to come together after languishing in development hell for decades. Not much is known about Beetlejuice 2 other than Michael Keaton is returning as the titular character with Wednesday‘s Jenna Ortega joining the cast as the daughter of Lydia Deetz, the character played by Winona Ryder in the original movie. Justin Theroux has also been cast in an undisclosed role with production expected to begin on May 10.

Now, Beetlejuice 2‘s release date has officially been announced by Warner Bros. The sequel will hit theaters on September 6, 2024. If both films stick to that release date, Beetlejuice 2 will open on the same day as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Blade reboot starring two-time Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali as the titular dhampir.

Will A Beetlejuice 2-Blade Box Office Battle Actually Happen?

How the MCU can introduce Blade mahershala ali

If both movies stick to their release dates, the weekend of September 6, 2024 will see a formidable box office battle between Beetlejuice 2 and Blade. Both titles are based on popular existing properties, as one is a legacy sequel to Burton’s 1988 film while the other is the MCU’s reimagining of the vampire killer which was already adapted into a trilogy starring Wesley Snipes. It’s uncommon, but not unprecedented for two tentpoles to open on the same day, as this summer will see the much-ballyhooed box office battle between Barbie and Oppenheimer on July 21.

However, it’s unlikely Blade sticks to its current release date. The MCU reboot was already experiencing creative woes with director Bassam Tariq departing the project before being replaced by Yann Demange. Just recently, the MCU’s Blade reboot was paused due to the writers’ strike. This, in all likelihood, means its release date will have to be delayed. This is probably why WB is confident setting the same release date for Beetlejuice 2, knowing they will likely have it to themselves. Though the box office battle with Blade probably won’t happen, audiences are still in for a treat with Beetlejuice 2.
