House of the Dragon Season 2 Has Even More Game of Thrones Spectacle – Armessa Movie News

House of the Dragon showrunner and executive producer Ryan J. Condal promises that season 2 will feature more of the spectacle of Game of Thrones.

House of the Dragon season 2 will feature even more spectacle and an amped-up pace, reveals the series’ showrunner. The HBO series, which premiered on August 21, is a prequel to their hit fantasy epic Game of Thrones, adapted from the Song of Ice and Fire novels by George R. R. Martin. Focusing in on a new power struggle around the Iron Throne in the continent of Westeros two centuries earlier, House of the Dragon largely follows the ruling family House Targaryen and their allies and enemies as they approach an all-consuming civil war that will become known as the Dance of the Dragons.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Although House of the Dragon has its fair share of effects-heavy sequences (especially those involving the titular dragons), it has taken some time to hone in on its vast slate of characters, setting them on the chess board for what is to come. These characters are largely the platinum blonde members of the Targaryen family including the kind-hearted dragonrider King Viserys I (Paddy Considine), the roguish warrior Prince Daemon (Matt Smith), and the only surviving child of Viserys’ first wife, Princess Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy). The non-Targaryen ensemble cast of the series also includes Viserys’ new wife Queen Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and her father Ser Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), among many others.

Per Deadline, House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan J. Condal recently spoke with The Times about the direction that season 2 of the series will be taking. He explained that season 1 took a somewhat slowed-down and zoomed-in approach to storytelling over spectacle because they wanted viewers to become familiar with the characters and their motivations before throwing them out of the frying pan and into the fire. He says that season 2 will “hit the rhythms people came to expect from the middle run of Game of Thrones.” Read his full quote below:

We will get to the spectacle. But you have to understand these people’s complexities before they’re thrown into war.

Series two will hit the rhythms people came to expect from the middle run of Game of Thrones, but it will have been earned, and viewers will feel the tragedies because we put the work in.

What To Expect From House of the Dragon Season 2

The House of the Dragon finale is set to air tonight, so once it is out fans will have a much better sense of where the show’s season 2 storyline can pick up from. Many of the individual episodes have featured huge time jumps, ranging from six months to ten years, so it is likely that season 2 will take place considerably later than the season 1 finale as well. However, as the war begins to pick up in earnest, as implied by Condal’s quote, there may be a tighter chronology for season 2 as they work to catch every detail of the Targayren conflict.

One other element that fans can expect in House of the Dragon season 2 is more of a sense of levity. A beefed-up sense of humor is one more thing that Condal promises in his interview. Although the characters – with the exception of Daemon at times – are somewhat self-serious, there will be ample opportunity for humor to be born from their interactions even if it’s not intentional.
