[ad_1]

WARNING! This article contains SPOILERS for The Bear season 2!FX/Hulu’s The Bear season 2 features several surprising cameos from award-winning actors, popular stars, and real-life Chicago chefs. Compared to the smaller ensemble in the debut season, the cast of The Bear season 2 has grown significantly larger to account for the returning original characters, new recurring figures, and special cameos. While the majority of The Bear season 2’s cameos were surprises, others like Will Poulter and Bob Odenkirk were confirmed ahead of time, thus growing the anticipation for the comedy-drama series’ sophomore season.

Most of the cameos in The Bear season 2 occur while the main chefs at The Bear, formerly the restaurant known as The Beef, are sent to do research in Chicago, take cooking classes, or are sent abroad to hone their skills. Several cameos also happen during The Bear season 2, episode 6, “Fishes,” a flashback to the Berzatto family Christmas approximately five years prior. The new and returning Berzatto family members as well as their friends who join for the holiday feature some familiar faces in the roles, who could become recurring characters.

9 Will Poulter As Luca

Best known for his roles in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Maze Runner, and Dopesick, Will Poulter has a memorable cameo in The Bear season 2 as Chef Luca. Poulter is introduced in The Bear season 2, episode 4 as one of Carmy’s former colleagues who trains Marcus in making pastries and desserts in Copenhagen. While getting up early in the morning to make their dishes, Chef Luca and Marcus discuss their family backgrounds, what led them to take up cooking careers, and even some Chicago sports comparisons. While Luca is working from Copenhagen during The Bear season 2, he could still return to see Marcus and Carmy again in the show’s future.

8 Bob Odenkirk As Lee

The Baer season 2 Lee Bob Odenkirk

Better Call Saul star Bob Odenkirk appears in one of the most complex guest roles of The Bear so far. Odenkirk cameos in The Bear season 2, episode 6’s Christmas episode as Uncle Lee, who has a distressing argument and animosity with Carmy’s older brother Mikey. Throughout the episode, Mikey and Lee make numerous passive-aggressive arguments toward one another until they reach an explosion at the dinner table, which includes Mikey angrily throwing forks at Lee while Lee screams at Mikey that he’s “nothing” in front of the family. Considering Lee’s name was one of the three on Mikey’s money-stuffed tomato sauce cans, it’s safe to assume that Bob Odenkirk will return for another family reunion in The Bear.

7 Jamie Lee Curtis As Donna Berzatto

The Bear season 2 Jamie Lee Curtis Donna Berzatto

Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis makes an emotionally charged cameo in The Bear season 2 as Donna Berzatto, the mother of Carmy, Sugar, and Mikey Berzatto. Donna has been frequently referenced by Carmy and Sugar in regard to their troubled upbringing, but The Bear season 2 is the first time she appears on screen. Curtis’ character is introduced during The Bear season 2, episode 6, where her turbulent relationship with her kids (particularly Sugar), alcoholism, and mental illness are explored on one of the most stressful days of the year.

Donna returns in The Bear’s season 2 finale as she shows up to The Bear’s grand opening, but can’t bring herself to go inside. While Donna misses the grand opening of her son and daughter’s new restaurant, her absence isn’t maliciously intended, as Jamie Lee Curtis’s character is still learning how to show love for her kids and feel like she deserves to be there for their big moments. Considering the Berzatto family’s relationship is left unresolved, The Bear season 2 is setting up a potentially bigger role for Jamie Lee Curtis and Donna’s reconciliations with her kids in the show’s future.

6 Jon Bernthal As Michael “Mikey” Berzatto

The Bear season 2 Jon Bernthal Mikey Berzatto

The main conflict of The Bear season 1 began after the death of Mikey, who had recently died by suicide and left the struggling family restaurant The Beef to his younger brother Carmy. Leading up to The Bear season 1’s ending, Carmy, Sugar, Richie, and The Beef’s staff worked to rebuild the restaurant while grieving, with Mikey largely being a mystery throughout the inaugural season. However, Jon Bernthal made a brief cameo in The Bear season 1, episode 6 as the previously unseen Mikey in a flashback to the family making a meal and laughing together. Bernthal returns as Mikey for The Bear season 2, episode 6, where more complexities of his character and dynamic with his family come to light.

5 Sarah Paulson As Michelle Berzatto

The Bear Season 2 Michelle Berzatto Sarah Paulson

American Horror Story actress Sarah Paulson makes an unexpected cameo in The Bear season 2, episode 6 as Michelle Berzatto, one of Carmy, Sugar, and Mikey’s cousins. Michelle brings her friend Steven to the family event, where the two experience the dysfunctional Berzatto family in full force. While visiting Chicago for Christmas from New York, Michelle implores Carmy to come stay with her after the holidays so that he can debrief before going back to work. As a member of the Berzatto family, Scream Queen Sarah Paulson could potentially make a return to the FX/Hulu series.

4 John Mulaney As Steven

The Bear Season 2 John Mulaney Steven

John Mulaney cameos in The Bear season 2, episode 6 as Steven, a friend of Michelle who attends the Berzattos’ Christmas celebration. While John Mulaney’s character doesn’t get the “cousin” title like Richie, he reveals that he’s been coming to Christmas at the Berzatto family home for several years and is thankful that they welcome him in each time. Since Steven is quite removed from the family’s dynamic, it’s possible that this will be the only time John Mulaney’s character is seen in The Bear.

3 Olivia Colman As Chef Terry

The Bear season 2 Chef Terry Olivia Colman

One of the most shocking The Bear season 2 cameos is Oscar and Emmy winner Olivia Colman. At the end of The Bear season 2, episode 7, Colman appears as Chef Terry, the owner of the restaurant that Richie is sent to stage at for a week. Colman’s character kindly tells Richie the story about losing her restaurant only to find a restaurant for lease sign on her 38th birthday, explaining that it’s never too late to start again and find your purpose. Considering she’s a fellow restaurant owner in Chicago, Olivia Colman’s Chef Terry could come back into The Bear’s story.

2 Donnie Madia As Himself

The Bear season 2 Donnie Madia

The Bear season 2 also has some appearances from real-life chefs and restaurateurs, including Chicago’s Donnie Madia. Making a cameo as himself in The Bear season 2, episode 3, Donnie Madia speaks with Sydney about the secret to success in the restaurant business, including having good hospitality and a partner she can trust. In real life, the Chicago-born Madia runs One Off Hospitality and is well-known for his business instincts and partnerships in the city’s dining world.

1 Joel McHale As Carmy’s Old Boss

The Bear season 2 Joel McHale

Another returning actor from season 1 who makes a cameo in The Bear season 2 is Joel McHale, who plays Carmy’s abusive former boss. In The Bear’s season 2 finale, Carmy hallucinates McHale’s character as a guest at the restaurant opening, demonstrating that he is still working through his PTSD from his past jobs. As Joel McHale’s character continues to haunt Carmy during stressful situations, The Bear’s season 2 finale likely won’t be the last time he appears on the series.
